Looking very likely, excellent signs thus far...

Who would have thought...Hampson and Griffiths being our rucks likely to play Round 1 with Vickery the stay at home fwd?

Who wouldve thought, the acquisition of hampster and the overnight improvement of Griff has put us in a good position as these 2 are quite mobile, have good speed and their tap work is very impressive....Vickery playing 90% forward is going to be huge for us but at least we know he can give them a chop out in the ruck and we still keep our structures when hampson or griff rest up fwd....

Just goes to show what a good thing depth is.

Maric doesn't (and nor should he) have to be rushed back.

Agree about depth, but don't quite agree we have depth yet in ruck stocks.
At present we have two AFL standard rucks - Maric and Hampson, of which one is currently operational.
Maric we have managed to run into the ground, prior to his latest ankle problem.
Which is why Hampson was an imperative trade, and so far looking very good.
Griff showing encouraging signs but one swallow doth not a summer make.
The Big O is to be deployed in case of emergency only.
Btw, getting tired of "expert" commentators on Fox Footy and the like continually refering to Hampson being traded for pick # 28 - after all the freebees, he was traded for pick 32.
Which of course is even more of a steal vs the other rucks that were recruited in 2013 trade and draft period.

look out, here comes the hampster. great signs.

my only small knock is his marking technique, seems flimsy and easy to spoil.

He’s a bit of an unco, he can’t mark or kick well at all, but the lad can seriously ruck.

Fair enough but they have probably seen Griff ruck against Vickery Maric Stepho and Hampson at training

He might just be improving quickly. Hardwick seemed genuinely impressed with him.

If Griff can reach his potential he could be a real star.

The other thing that they don;t often mention is that he was originally selected as priority pick by Carlton at #17, so even if we did use pick #28, they still 'sold' him at a loss.

Is it too early to call our draft and trade period another smashing success?
No, Feb is the only time we used to be able to call it a success before March hit in and you realised we got a pile of poo for the gold we paid. ;D

Agree TT, but the drafting of Hampson has already had benefits. We will get a number of years more out of Ivy due to his presence. RFC was able to make the wise decision for surgery now on Ivy's ankle rather than 'nurse' him through another season and end up driving him / his body into the ground before time.

Anyone think Shaun looks a bit like an upsized version of the bloke that used to wear his number? The square shoulders, the long legs, the bouncy running gait like a high jumper approaching the bar. The resemblance when he bounded off like a gazelle from the centre square stoppage and pinpointed an opposition player was uncanny.

Really enjoying Super Luke's tap work. Hopefully he doesn't forget to dish it off every now and then though.

Did well in the ruck.

Always tries to handball when he gets it - needs to kick it more.

I posted elsewhere that I was a Carlton supporter.

Hampson is a handy footballer and I was disappointed to lose him but we had to give up one of the three ruckman. He is a beast of a guy (with a great temperament) and exceptionally quick over 10-50m. He's had the 'Looks like Tarzan play like Jane' moniker at times in the past but this is unfair.

His tap work can be very good and our recruiters targeted him as he is comfortable using either hand in the ruck. His kicking for goal is hit and miss though and his marking is the same. He is short sighted and started wearing contacts last year to help but this probably only gave a marginal improvement.

Hampson always promises a lot and might be something of a talent-tease. It is easy to see it. He will prosper if allowed time in first ruck, with stints as a forward. He also needs to stay injury free. Has a habit of getting hurt unfortunately. I reckon the Tiges did a good deal for him. At worst he is backup for Ivan and the two might complement each other well. If they both play, what does that mean for Ty? He is a quality bloke as well and was well liked at the Blues.

Hampson was OK tonight.
As the season progresses I would like to see him assert himself more on contests around the ground.
