I think the new ruck rules will greatly benefit Hampson, and he hasn't been given much of go with Warnock & Kreuzer assuming most of the ruck responsibilities. He's a got a great leap and excellent agility, I think he'll do really well at providing Ivan with some much needed support.

Good post bully.

During the week, I had the opportunity to talk to a very keen supporter on the "inside" at Carlton, who was very aware of Hampson's strengths and weaknesses.

His main observation regarding Hampson was that his major handicap was a lack of core strength.
My friend pointed out that Hampson has a tapering figure, narrow hips. This means a narrow or weak core, especially in a competitive contest.
He implied that Hampson has difficulty holding his ground and often gets knocked off the ball or out of a contest.

He also said that Hampson's strength was his pace and ability to find a gap between himself and his opponent in open ground.

Might have to ask Megan if this is the case.

I'm hoping to see Hampson take the majority of the centre square hit outs and Maric the majority around the ground. The other positive I can see is that Hampson has been the main tall focus in Carltons forward line when played there hence getting the best defender, with us he should be 3rd in line which could give us massive upside going forward. Very hard to double team Jack or Ty with Hampson/Maric standing one out in the goal square.

I agree. Great logic in that we have both rucks playing to their strenghs.

Wouldn't surprise to see both doing the around the ground ruck work with Maric nominating as the ruck. Means Maric can wrestle the other ruck and Hampson can just jump straight over the top with the rules that you can't block the 3rd man up.

Refer him to Leysy for a thorough assessment.

if this guy is in our best 22, with him and Maric sharing the ruck duties and Vickery playing as a permanent forward. Where does that leave McBean, surely you can't play all four?

Growing up in the ressies where he doesn't need to get smashed physically or mentally while he develops his game. If and when he's ready to go, he'll demand a spot in the ones by his performances.

Maybe after another season or two when Ivarn is done, Tyrone goes into first ruck with Beanly replacing him in the forward half

3rd on the Coleman ladder?

As soon as hampson was acquired vickery should have been feeling the temperature rise.

If he's gonna be judged as a power forward alone, then the sheer numbers will come into play.

Hypothetical -- vickery goes missing in first three rounds and we suffer two disappointing losses against GC away and Carlton at the G.

Mcbean kicks 9 in first two VFL games.

This picture is a real possibility IMO.

Over the course of the season, I reckon we'll see both in action.

Just sounds like one of those pessimistic Dud delist kinda calls

Especially considering there was no explanation why.

With Hampson and Riewoldt playing up forward alongside TV we will have the ability to stretch defences next year with a real quality forward line.

If TV explodes into an elite player it will be next year.
