Nice work by the velvet hammer :clap. Hope the velveteen hammer is a boy. A big, monster, tough, good looking boy with a huge engine. I'd say Jeep will have already signed him in utero

25 to young to be a dad? Most generations preceeding the last couple would have been to war, built a house, worked for 10 years and have 4 kids by 25. :eek:ld

Kids can be a pretty good motivator.

Prefer them ugly. Ling ugly in fact. Good looks only belong on the Royce Harts of the world.

There have been some damn ugly, fine footballers to be sure FFW, Gary Hocking being perhaps the finest ugliest footballer I ever saw. Maybe we should get The Chimp a date with Gina Rhinehart?

I'm afraid this is not a good development for Shaun and his football.
Leaving aside he's walked into a relationship with a (pretty good looking) squeeze 13 years older with his eyes closed, 25 is just too young to be a dad AND a focused professional athlete.
Not saying its not impossible to manage, but aint gonna be easy with another major distraction at home.
Might have been better off hangin' with Dusty.

Unreal. :hihi

Even a real chimp would struggle...

Shaunn and Big Ivy cut lone figures running laps together around Punt Rd oval in the pouring rain yesterday morning!!

Like all parents, I am sure we roll around the idea of a full time nanny..but baulk at the $800 p/w fees. Well Megan is worth a fortune, young Shaun is on fairly good coin as well...I am sure between them a full time nanny to take care of..well..everything will be in place, ensuring he isn't all bleary eyed come game day.

And as to age 25 being too young..crap..what a great age to spawn, if he has a son he will hopefully be still playing when his son is old enough to understand what is going on and and can hang out together in the change rooms. The kid will love it.

Shaun recorded 3 seconds flat for the 20 metre sprint at the camp, coupled with an 86 cm vertical leap. For a 201 cm ruckman, that was astonishing, and placed him in the top 5% of players tested. It was all too promising to resist, so Carlton’s recruiting panel called his name at the appropriate moment, and Hampson became a Blue

Hampson's vertical leap is of real interest to me.
No doubt in my mind that Maric's effectiveness in the ruck was reduced last season with the introduction of the new ruck rules.
We've gone and got a ruckman who can jump. That's got to be a good thing.

He also led the competition for taps to advantage, all things considered he's a very astute selection. Well done Blair, with Rory Lobb & Apeness going early in the draft, I think we've played this perfectly, our biggest deficiency has been addressed with pick 32, not too bad at all.

Yep, credit where credit is due.

I'm pretty sure this has become an over-statement as TTA havent been released as a stat since '11. There was a period when SH was very effecient in TTA but it wasn't last year or over the duration of his career.

Hampson's figures for 2011 were 163/577 = 28.2%

Irrespective of when they were recorded, the sample size is big enough to conclude that he knows how to ruck. If he manages to do that and kick a goal a game like he did in 2012, I think it's fair to say it will be money well spent.

During the week, I had the opportunity to talk to a very keen supporter on the "inside" at Carlton, who was very aware of Hampson's strengths and weaknesses.

His main observation regarding Hampson was that his major handicap was a lack of core strength.
My friend pointed out that Hampson has a tapering figure, narrow hips. This means a narrow or weak core, especially in a competitive contest.
He implied that Hampson has difficulty holding his ground and often gets knocked off the ball or out of a contest.

He also said that Hampson's strength was his pace and ability to find a gap between himself and his opponent in open ground.

It seemed to me, from this, that Hampson may best be suited as a leading high-marking forward, but may struggle in contested or ruck situations.

Anyway, my friend also tells me that Carlton are going backwards at a great rate of knots and that Kernahan and Malthouse have almost come to blows on a number of occasions during 2013, and that Carlton's Annual Report figures are at best "rubbery".
So, for us, things are going "swimmingly" at Carlton.

I think the new ruck rules will greatly benefit Hampson, and he hasn't been given much of go with Warnock & Kreuzer assuming most of the ruck responsibilities. He's a got a great leap and excellent agility, I think he'll do really well at providing Ivan with some much needed support.
