I don't think we're a serious threat for a flag with Cotch or Lids or Dusty or any other player on our list either.

At least those you mention are good enough to play the game. Hampson has no football ability.
I'm shocked and concerned that the well must be really dry to keep on playing him.
The recruiting dept must've been pissed the night they choose to go after him.
There have been about 10 ruckman swap clubs in the last 2-3 years and we find him. It's shocking recruiting

Of course I rate them. Do you think we are a realistic flag chance at the moment?

Not with the current coach. The 3 you mention would be integral to our flag chances if we had a good coach.

Hampys stats:

8 disposals, (3 kicks, 5 HB) @ 50% DE, 35 metres gained, 0 marks, 0 scores, 1 clearance, 33 HO (10 to advantage) @ 30% HOTA. 3 frees for, 4 against.

Jamar:
7 disposals (2 k, 5 HB) @ 100% DE, 100 metres gained, 3 marks, 1 goal, 2 clearances, 19 HO (5 to advantage) @ 26% HOTA.

Essendon won the centre clearances 15-12 and clearances 27-19.

So Jamar shaded him by having 100% DE and kicking a goal and despite Hampy winning more HO we lost the clearances.

Is it enough to keep playing him? Griff is very competitive when he's rucking.

Not sure Griff is ready mentally to take on full time ruck. he seems to play well when he's the second ruck.

The clearance figures this week were:

Hammer rucking RFC 21 Ess 24 Draw 8
Griff RFC 8 Ess 14 Draw 4
Vic RFC 0 Ess 2 Draw 0

The official figures are 42 to 31 Essendon's way. I get 40 -29 , The official stats must have figured some of the draws gained enough territory to count as clearances.

I agree Griff looks pretty good in the ruck. When I have done these figures previously Griff usually is more effective. Did a couple of nice things in clearances, one steal was quite nifty.

You would think Griff and Ty rucking would be a win to get them involved more in the game and Beanie for Hampson a massive upgrade in skills, smarts and goals.

Rucking hitouts almost irrelvant in relation to clearance stats.

No. I think it's been established that Hampy consistently does very little apart from HOs and then I think it's also been established that HOTA isn't indicative of clearances. So what's the point of him?

I was an advocate of using Kmac as a pinch hitter as a ruck them becoming an on baller after the ball up but he's obviously injured now.

Not sure if Griff is capable of a full game as first ruck. I think Ivan is a better tuck option. Yes he has no leap but seeing as it's believed HO don't affect clearances then it doesn't matter. At least he'll be better around the ground.

But having said that I know Hampy will play Friday night.

I gotta go back to the tape, but in the 3rd or 4th qtr, there's a play in the centre as we are breaking off half back, where Hammer tries to handball falling backwards and completely stuffs it up. I just remember rolling on the ground in hysterics, even Richo mentioned something about Benny Hill.
It summed up Hampson as a footballer.

I wouldnt play Hampson as he does nothing but get hit outs (which I think arent worth a great deal), but there is no real point debating it as he will be playing again this week regardless.

Our rucks stocks, past and present is an absolute disgrace
Stephenson, Derricx, Graham, browne, Cartledge, these are the duds we put our hopes in.
Hartley is a fraud for trading in Hampson and not finding a proper genuine ruckman.

Hampson will have a gig for the remainder of the season, barring injury, as he is now the #1 ruckman for the Tigers.
Will always be a battler who occasionally shines but will generally be a very dim light.
Can't quite fathom how things have got to this state regarding the dearth of quality ruckmen at RFC.

Was hartley a fraud for getting iVan as well ?

Ivan, left the Crows coz he couldn't get a game. He was a squad player and never in their best 22.
Even at his best, he's never Been a dominate ruckman.
The game has changed, he's a Dinosaur in this modern game. he's not even dominating in the two's.

Nice, but you didn't answer the question.

Blair Hartley is a complete fraud.
Ivan is just a pass mark, purely for his leadership skills.
We have so many retreads from other clubs reserve teams because of this guy.

I tend to blame Frank just as much though talls aren't an exact art when they're young.
Vickery was drafted as a ruckman. Doesn't ruck much and certainly will never be a number 1 so that's a fail.
Then there's Gus Graham and Andrew Browne who were also flunks and should be hitting their straps as senior ruckmen about now.

Putting Hampson aside, rucks are all a bit of a raffle. Apart from the odd exception, NinNat, Kreuzer, and maybe Grundy, probably a couple more in recent history, its all a punt. Pick a big young bloke who looks like he can play or might be able to learn to play and hope for the best.

I would love Griff and Ty to share the ruck with maybe a pinch hit from McBean but just not gunna happen.

Sheesh I would have thought those rucking stats produced in that table quoted in the post above, make it abundantly clear why Hammer is our no. 1 ruck! If you want me to spell it out we get a far higher proportion of clearances when he is rucking. And he was poor last week in all facets of the game IMO. Never believe anyone who tells you rucking is irrelevant.
