Hampy v Freo:

8 disposals ( 6 kicks & 2 handballs) @ 62% DE. 165 metres gained. 3 marks. 2 clearances, 2 tackles & 10 pressure acts. 32 HO's with 8 to advantage @ 25% HOTA.

BTW, We actually won the HO's 48-44 but Freo won the HOTA 12 to 9.

He tries. A more advanced Gus Graham.

Physical effort not the issue. Gives everything, I do admire that.

As much we over payed for him, I've stoped wishing for more.

Give the effort, win some hitouts and hope for a contested mark every now and then.

Anything more is a bonus.

Such backhanded compliments or begrudging praise for many who so disparaged Hampson that now are finding it difficult to acknowledge they were, so some extent, wrong.

Angus Graham - ridiculous comment! Irrelevant really, but where's Angus now? Maybe a little older than H. One's still playing as a No.1 AFL ruck.

No doubt about many on PRE. Never celebrate the positive. More important than losing face.

Watched the last quarter of Swans game (as you do) and he almost strangled Tippet to death in their final entry. Lucky the umps missed that. He was probably due a bit of luck.

I thought I heard one of the commentators say that Hampson was at #6 for hit outs to advantage before the Freo game.....could that be right? If so, then given his ordinary first few games, the last few weeks must have shot him up the rankings. Whatever - he is competing really well now so the run of games has suited him. Looks much more aggressive and comfortable in the role. Hope his fitness holds out.

Tries his best. But he he is a *smile* footballer to watch. What do they do a training? Teach them to always forget which way we are kicking.

Can't decide whose opinion to go with - yours or Wayne Carey's.

Let me think it over ... now whose got the score on the board, football-wise, not on the PRE sledge board?

I'm glad Beavis didn't persist with Maric. One of the few smart moves he's made this season.

Just gotta pray Hammer keeps improving. I can remember when Petrie was a clumsly cymbal hands. Stranger things have happened, I suppose.

Absolutely.
Just don't re-sign him for 3 more years.

Claimed on the match-day thread that Hampson received 3 Coachs' votes. Are thse mutually decided? If so. both Lyon and Dimma agreed.

But rest assured, Zips, they know nothing about football compared to you, either.

Who knows? But I was one along with several other posters who, looking around for a young ruck at another club a couple of years ago, thought Freo's Clark could be a good option. Not after seeing last match; more proppy and injury-prone than Hampo who also took him to the cleaners.

We do need another strong young one for the future (if Soldo can't make it), but maybe keeping H for the next 1-2 years, gives the club the time to find and groom one, most likely a trade-deal from GC or whoever.

A good game from Hammer, apart from his tap work, I liked his contested game it, he has set the standard for himself.

Hopefully with more n more game time he gets more comfortable within the structures and workloads of the game., he's missed a heap of footy or played injured a fair bit recently.
The more second efforts within the ruck contest from him the better, he's never going to be an elite footballer but as a ruck man winning a couple of clearances n breaking open congestion for our mids or putting pressure on the opposition mids will always be valuable.

I was one who wanted to pay much more over odds for Z clarke than hammertime. and yeah, hammer gave him a clinic.

only a month ago, I also thought hammer was Angus Graham-like in his ability to ruck at the highest level.

sorry hammer. Just shows the recruiters know more than me.
