Yep, I've been saying for a while that ruck work, largely, is irrelevant. It's 2 guys up against each other just trying to get their hands to the ball first ie not intentionally and directly tapping it to a mid.lamb22 said:Great work Tigertim.
In doing similar reviews last dew weeks I was even more surprised to find out how irrelevant ruck taps are.
It's almost counter-intuitive but clearances seem to be generated from losing rucks. I have a theory, the mids seem to line up goal side of their opponents and ruckmen tap the opponents way. If the mids cant control it, the momentum actually runs the other side's way. if its squeezed wide almost always a clearance to the losing ruck team unless a bounce or a fumble or tackle gets the ball tracking back the other way.

You got me dude (I made all that *smile* up .fastin bulbous said:So how do you acount for this Tigertim olice:
4th ball up. 17.49. Tippett wins tap out to Hannebury.
17.49 Grigg handballs to Jack handballs who to Rioli who runs into goal.
Where was the hammer when Tippett won the ruck contest to Hannebury while Grigg hand balled to jack to Rioli ha? Your stats lie. :-*

I don't totally agree with this. Nic Nat sets up several scoring opportunities each week on the basis of his ruck work. Each week you see Shuey, Priddis and co. getting armchair rides off the big fella as he puts the ball down their throats or sets them into space. They have the luxury of setting up offensively at most stoppages.tigertim said:Yep, I've been saying for a while that ruck work, largely, is irrelevant.

I think average ruck work is irrelevant, but the best in the business gives their team a huge advantage and are worth their weight in gold.
