He is still horrible Leon and was pantsed by Tippet. People confuse cause and effect. He gets credit for our fourth quarter start but clearances came from Tippet taps and swans cleared a couple themselves. He was good in Griff's second goal with an actual clearance and give to Martin.

We won for a lot of reason and a lot of class from our stars. Hammer was irrelevant.

We've seriously prejudiced our chances this year playing Hampson and it will cost us more if we continue.

I'd read reports that Tippett was a much improved ruck-man and, in real life, was surprised how much better he is. Thought he got on top early, but Hammer fought back into it. But you have to concede Tippett won on the day; he is a true PF/ruck; Hammer will only ever get a rare goal. But to say he 'was irrelevant' is clearly unfair, even given the numerous other posters who are simply seeing things you refuse to acknowledge because you have an incontrovertible stance.

Haven't had time to review the game yet, but I actually thought it was probably Hammer's worst game in 2016, but he still made a significant impact with his tap-outs or body work, some aggression at times. Enough to say we wouldn't have won without him. Griff ok to good in ruck contests, but I have argued his best role is a KF or mobile utility. Crucial 5 goals, so you don't want to use him up too much in huge physical grind of ruck contests. TV bloody awful IMHO.

Your last point; really doubt and not sure how, given that we clearly have none better ATM. As posted elsewhere, thought Ivan looked a little better in VFL but hard to say his speed is going to pick up.

To be continued.

Yep, I just rewatch the last quarter to check I wasn't missing something re Hampys last quarter.

He had nothing to do with those 5 goals EXCEPT as you say give the handball to Dusty who kicked to Griff. When he was off Ty and Grigg actually won the tap outs.

By my calculations he won 11 HO ( and I was bring generous in my assessment) with 4 HOTA and 3 HOTD and the 1 handball. 2 of the HOTA recipients were immediately tackled for a ball up.

He didn't "squash" 6 of their mids or whatever some other poster claimed. Nothing like that. Zero.

He didn't have "presence" or was busting packs or shepherding or tackling. After the hitouts it was NOTHING.

As just replied to Lamby, want to do a review myself, but must judge him on whole game. Tippett clearly won, but Hampson had more impact that it seems from stats alone I thought (as did many other posters too).

FWIW, AFL site credits H with 27 HOs, T with 23 and Sinclair & Griff 7. So it must depend on HOW you assess them, which means there is different interpretation, evaluations and opinions. I trust my eyes largely and would have to say, overall, but for Hampson's efforts just to contest strongly with Tippett, wouldn't have won. Not to say he was the better ruck-man at all.

Yeah, my figures were just for the last qrt alone.

Relevance? As if you'd reject her if your fantasy came true?

So just envy the basis for it?
No, leon. I know you're on the warpath but you've taken a throwaway line and made something out of nothing.

But since you asked, the relevance is I was responding to someone who said he jagged Gale and that meant his confidence was high. My belief is that she jagged him and the situation was no indicator one way or another of his confidence. That's all.

Yer, fair enough. I just think we probably shouldn't get too personal with our players, but love a bit of humour as much as anyone.

Even though I argue he isn't such a crappy player as many have repeatedly claim on here (you called him the 'wife'), Megan must be a lot of comfort.

Good luck to him, but think you're right - she jagged him probably. As long as they'r happy.

yeah, and jack had nothing to do with Driolis running goal. after he kicked it to him, he just sat there grinning.

Cool. Your point is?

Tippet is average ruckman at best , Sydney must be spewing using him as there main man.
Hammer played solid got the ball to our mids more often than not on Saturday night

Watched 1/2 the VFL, then to the G, right now, with what we have on the list, is out #1 ruckman. Gave some good service to the mids, I think he will be there in 2017. He has been quoted saying he is looking forward to a non surgery pre season (has on or both ?? ankles operated last pre season??)

Maric did OK, never a jump ruckman and whilst he played OK in the VFL, he soooooooooo slow. I cant see him playing a game for some time barring an injury or Hampson being ineffective in the ruck.

What rubbish. I get frustrated when people just write this nonsense:

Hampson: 5 disposals (1k & 4h) @ 80% DE , 1 mark, 3 metres gained, 0 goals, 0 I50, 1 clearance, 1 tackle, 27 HO with 8 HOTA (29% HOTA) , 5 pressure acts, 0 score assists.

Tippett;
15 disposals (6k & 9h) @ 60% DE, 4 marks, 128 metres gained, 2 goals, 2 I50, 2 clearances, 4
tackles, 24 HO with 4 HOTA @ (16 % HOTA), 11 pressure acts, 2 score assists.

But then the retort is "yeah but he did a lot of hard work off the ball" or " he had presence" or "he was squashing their mids" or some make believe crap. So I rewatch the game and its complete garbage that he's doing all these imaginary things that don't show up in the stats sheets.

The last qtr.......
Hampson in the ruck. 5 clearances. 5 goals in 8 minutes.
Hampson now on the bench. Sydney 3 clearances. 3 goals.
Case closed.

Ok:

last quarter facts. I've watched the last quarter AGAIN and listed all of the pieces of play involving Hamp AND the goals:

First ball up: 20:00. Tippett wins tap out but goes straight to Miles who gives to Grigg kicks long to Lloyd who goals

2nd ball up: 19.35. Hampson wins tap out to no-one. Ball runs free. Miles collects. 10 seconds of scrappy contested footy. Buddy gets tackled by Rance and Edwards. handballs to Deledio who passes to Griff for goal at the 18.39 mark (almost a minute after the ball up)

3rd ball up: 18.35 Hampson wins tap out to no-one, ball runs free. Henney collects and Swans go forward.

4th ball up. 17.49. Tippett wins tap out to Hannebury.

17.49 Grigg handballs to Jack handballs who to Rioli who runs into goal.

17: 11; 5th ball up. Nuetral tap out. Ball gets contested. Hampson extracts ball and handballs to Dusty who kicks to Griff who goals.

16:21. 6th ball up. Hampson wins and taps to Miles who is immediately tackled.

16:16. 7th ball up. Hampson wins tap and goes to Vlaustin who is immediately tackled.

16:09. 8th ball up. Hampson wins tap and goes straight to Kieran Jack who clears into Swans forward line. Rance punches ball clear, Miles kicks long into our forward line and Richards drops mark. Rioli goals at the 15:39 mark.

So there's our 5 goals. It's Miles who is instrumental in clearances. Not Hampson. Hampson was part of the string of possessions in 1 goal.

Hampson goes to the bench. Vickery rucks.

15:39. Tippett wins tap out but Vickery collects and handballs to Vlaustin who clears.

13:37. Boundary throw in. Sinclair taps to Kieran Jack who goals.

13:34. Ball up. Tippett wins tap. Ball goes free. Rance collects and gets it to Edwards who kicks forward to Riewoldt who kicks a point.

12:45 Vickery/Tippett ball up. Grigg comes over as 3rd man up and wins tap out but Sydney clear the ball forward but Rance collects.

11:14 Tippett marks in front of Vickery and passes to Hannebury who goals.

Hampson comes back on.

10:48. Hampson wins tap out straight to Parker who gets stripped by Valustin.

10:01. Boundary throw in. Tippett wins tap out then wins clearance.

9:45. Hampson wins tap out to Miles in D50.

9:18 Tippett wins tap but goes straight to Miles, scrappy play then Papley wins a free who then goals.

8:30 Hampson wins tap but it goes straight to Hannebury who clear and stream forward but Morris marks.

8:00 Nuetral tap between Hampson and Vickery at boundary throw in, Richmond clear.

7:29. Tippett marks way in front of Hampson and goals.

6:38. Hampson wins tap out to Martin but he's tackled straight away. Ball up.

6:34. Sinclair wins tap out and Sydney clear into their F50 and Parker kicks a point.

5:16 Graph shows Sydney have had the last 6 I50's and 8 out of the last 10 I50's.

5:10. Sinclair wins boundary throw in but it goes to Miles to Edwards to Jack who kicks long to Griff who goals.

4:48. Tippett wins tap to Hannebury but his kick goes to Grimes who gets a free kick.

2:55. Boundary throw in, no clear winner of tap. results in another ball up.

2:40. Ball up, Vlaustin smashes ball forward.

2:15. Hampson wins tap but straight to Parker and Sydney go forward.

last 40 seconds Valustin kicks long to Riewoldt who kicks to Griff who kicks to Lloyd who goals.

good analysis. Winning the ruck does not always correlation to winning the ball BUT boy do we look so much better when he goes up in the center bounce. More than anything we have a ruckman who can jump, this is not how MAric,Griff and Vickery ruck, they stay planted and try put off the opposition. Hampson tries to put it into your hands.

Great analysis tigertim. Hampson aint a bad tap ruckman but some far over-emphasise his worth in that area. And of course he provides nothing else, although I'm proud of that don't argue in the last.
