Rucking is a lot more than stats.
It's about presence and protecting the mids.
The Hampster did a lot of heavy inside work.
Not saying he's Goldstein.
But neither is he Angus Graham.

that very well put.

he was knocking them down like 9 pins in the last.

should be a stat called 'squashed mids'. A stat more prized than i50s or CP's. Hammer would have had about 6 in the last.

Love it. I'm all for anything that encourages big blokes to sit little men on their arses.

I know when we win it feels like everyone's great etc but geez, the bar is set so low for Hampy that simply contesting at the ruck contests is lauded.

5 disposals (1k & 4h) @ 80% DE , 1 mark, 3 metres gained, 0 goals, 0 I50, 1 clearance, 1 tackle, 27 HO with 29% HOTA , 5 pressure acts, 0 score assists.

Tippett;
15 disposals (6k & 9h) @ 60% DE, 4 marks, 128 metres gained, 2 goals, 2 I50, 2 clearances, 4
tackles, 24 HO with 16 % HOTA, 11 pressure acts, 2 score assists.

It seems he does "well" by not simply stinking it up.

Yep the bar is ridiculously low for Hampson. I reckon tippet pansed him where it counts, contested ball and 2 goals and 2 goal assists. But itis what it is, Hampson is the best we've got.

Miles had 10 clearances. Hammer has learned not to hit it so far.

We won the game in the final quarter through centre clearance dominance. Hammer was the key to that so I can't buy into peoples views that Tippett pansed him because of stats. It was the HOTA that he got in the final quarter that won it but people are looking at his disposals.

The don't argue he gave in the last was immense, the noise level at the G definitely jumped a bit when that occurred.

His confidence is growing. Unless injured Maric will not play again this year.

You're not being serious.

You claim Tippett didn't pants him despite the obvious differential in the stats but then claim Hampys HOTA in the last was what won it. What was Hampys HOTA in the last quarter compared to Tippetts?

Any bloke who jagged Megan Gale should not be short on confidence.

Tap work great, but nearly every marking contest, he goes up one handed. The fear of contact isn't something that will change.

It's not just his tap work that's improved. The sustained run in the seniors has given our mids a chance to learn to rover to the Hampster.

He's key to our finals aspirations.

TF I saw that too!

He did quite a few of those things last night that we haven't seen and have been critical of. He did things that don't count as stats ie kicks marks.

When he came off and Vickery had to ruck Sydney got back into the game. Vickery for those that want him to play more as a ruckman, myself included , last night showed me that he ain't one. He doesn't like body contact at all!

That is the min we expect from Hammer. He is a better option that Maric now as Maric is shot.

It's early but based on what I've seen so far Hammer stays,Maric retires.

Yes Hampson made a poor spoiling attempt which resulted in a Tippett mark and goal. I hate it when he goes up one hand in a marking contest cause he bloody gets his hand on it. I think he is confidence player and we hope that he keeps improving.

To those that don't want him in the side I think this year he has been steadily improving.

He is important to us.

I'm happy for a player to be doing well.
Good post.

Saw a bit of Maric in the VFL and he might have been moving a little better. Enjoying the contest against his old mate at NB now, Orren Stephenson. Maybe, just maybe, not washed up yet. But doubt it, the quality of AFL opponents is a big rise in athleticism for Ivan now.

However, he is still solid back-up hopefully if someone goes down, especially when the rain comes and the grounds slow up.
Think the club is not totally dumb and planned for Ivan to be No.1, Hammer that adequate back-up, Soldo hopefully the future. No-one too sure if Soldo can make it, but he appears not hopeless.

But will need someone to to the job until either Soldo can start to learn at AFL level or we know we have to find someone else. That look's to be Hampson most likely. Get another promising young ruck? Sure we should be looking, especially at the stockpile at GC, but always hard to guarantee quality in this role. Have to be tested 'under fire'.

He didn't jag her, she jagged him. Older woman, highly successful, footy tragic, got herself a trophy wife.

Relevance? As if you'd reject her if your fantasy came true?

So just envy the basis for it?

He is still horrible Leon and was pantsed by Tippet. People confuse cause and effect. He gets credit for our fourth quarter start but clearances came from Tippet taps and swans cleared a couple themselves. He was good in Griff's second goal with an actual clearance and give to Martin.

We won for a lot of reason and a lot of class from our stars. Hammer was irrelevant.

We've seriously prejudiced our chances this year playing Hampson and it will cost us more if we continue.
Yep, I just rewatch the last quarter to check I wasn't missing something re Hampys last quarter.

He had nothing to do with those 5 goals EXCEPT as you say give the handball to Dusty who kicked to Griff. When he was off Ty and Grigg actually won the tap outs.

By my calculations he won 11 HO ( and I was bring generous in my assessment) with 4 HOTA and 3 HOTD and the 1 handball. 2 of the HOTA recipients were immediately tackled for a ball up.

He didn't "squash" 6 of their mids or whatever some other poster claimed. Nothing like that. Zero.

He didn't have "presence" or was busting packs or shepherding or tackling. After the hitouts it was NOTHING.
