Rucking is a lot more than stats.
It's about presence and protecting the mids.
The Hampster did a lot of heavy inside work.
Not saying he's Goldstein.
But neither is he Angus Graham.

This is his first consistent block of games for some years and every week he is showing incremental improvement.

Does well in the ruck.

Now doing some good work on the ground too. Second efforts are very good.

Maric can't bend over ATM.

Shown encouraging signs the last few weeks however it highlights how bad our ruck stocks are with Hampson as our #1.

He's turning into an AFL standard ruck, do need to get someone else, though.

If he's turning into an afl standard ruckman that still makes him the worst #1 in the league. People are easily pleased. Would say if that Lloyd goal doesn't sail through the reactions would be different. Okay he wasn't a total liability like usual, he was a step up to below average. Yippee.

Yes indeed. The rose coloured glasses are being worn by many.

I'd love for someone to quantify his "second efforts", his "influence", his "incremental improvement" and his "presence and protection" and explain to me where it sits with all the other ruckmen in the AFL.

Fair game by Tippett btw.....rucked, went forward and kicked goals. Got 15 possessions around the ground.

Both Shaun and Ivan out of contract and the end of this year. Cannot possibly keep both... But would let need to keep one of them. Who do you prefer? Gotta be Hammer for me but I suspect those in charge will recontract both of them.

I'd encourage Ivan to retire, and his stint in the VFL is probably sending that message, and hang onto Hammer. Also need to trade for an experienced ruck man, or draft someone with the stated intention of turning them into one.

If we keep either we are simply making the same mistakes that have got us into the mess we are in. Both need to go and an A grade ruck needs to be brought in.

Yes that's what I would do. I think only one of the two should remain but we need an upgrade for sure.

He's a better option than Maric who is struggling at the moment. I couldn't believe it when he was taken off last night in the fourth after we had kicked 5 straight from centre bounces. Sydney got back into the game when he was off.

If he keeps improving at this rate he'd be considered for the AA squad of forty

He is what he is.

Still a much better option than Maric.

It's great Griff finally stood up. Long may it continue.

In Griffo's 5 goal video, I just noticed Hampo do a 'don't argue' in the centre all heading to Griffo's one hand mark and goal. ;D

TF I saw that too!

He did quite a few of those things last night that we haven't seen and have been critical of. He did things that don't count as stats ie kicks marks.

When he came off and Vickery had to ruck Sydney got back into the game. Vickery for those that want him to play more as a ruckman, myself included , last night showed me that he ain't one. He doesn't like body contact at all!

That is the min we expect from Hammer. He is a better option that Maric now as Maric is shot.

It's early but based on what I've seen so far Hammer stays,Maric retires.

Yes Hampson made a poor spoiling attempt which resulted in a Tippett mark and goal. I hate it when he goes up one hand in a marking contest cause he bloody gets his hand on it. I think he is confidence player and we hope that he keeps improving.

To those that don't want him in the side I think this year he has been steadily improving.

He is important to us.

I'm happy for a player to be doing well.
