We surely can't play this guy against Jacobs and NicNat. They will rip him to shreds, both in the ruck and around the ground. Surely we are just better off playing someone who can add something around the ground

He is the only ruckman on our list who can actually compete with these guys in the ruck. If you want to see a real shellacking try playing Ivan in the ruck. Round the ground he is improving.

Last year against Jacobs he just didn't provide a physical contest. Actually looked scared. Like when Rodney Hogg rang his wife after backing away against the West Indies and said "burn the tape".

Our doctors have seven days to locate Hammer's mongrel gene and activate it.

That was the first game I've ever seen him even start to look like a player. Maybe he is developing. See what happens next two weeks. He was actually getting us some centre clearances with his follow up work. If he can ever kick straight things might keep looking up.

Some serious straw clutching going on here.

Hampson takes 3 marks in an ENTIRE 120 minute game of football and at all of 28 years of age there's light at the end of the tunnel.??He wins a few hit outs against an undersized Grundy and he's our great white hope for the future?? But he tried really hard when he was kicking for goal. Well that's OK then.

Easily pleased are some.

Don't worry about the entire 9 season career of utter ineptitude and failure on display for all to see.

Sad state of affairs at the RFC.

i'm sure we'd all like to throw the straw to the shithouse. But at the moment we've gotta clutch onto it for dear life. Or forever how long it will take us to find or develop a real alternative to Ivan.

He did give away 3 or 4 really lazy frees.

His hitouts mostly led to Collingwood clearances.

He was two suburbs away from Grundy in the third when he kicked a gimme goal running into the square,

One of his marks he stole from a leading Vickery just so we could witness his magnicent set shot routine rather than a Vickery goal.

Every minute he plays two football loving fairies die.

Oh and did I mention he still hasn't mastered primary (footy) motor skills like catching and kicking , let alone advance skills like kicking it to a teammate or facing the right way.

Probably worst footballer to play the game this century and that includes Fatty Farmer or give me a house Taylor.

OK I'm sure this sort of invective is therapeutic for you, but responses:

- Totally agree he is really clumsy and have said so, no surprises about the frees, but doubt they'd all be justified given the rogering the umpires have dished out to us both games thus far. [RFC fans should really start analysing the umpiring far more IMO]
- His hitouts did not mostly lead to opp clearances as other posters have also said, but you think good midfielders never shark the opposing rucks, really?? And it's always the ruckman's fault?
- He got off Grundy for 2 goal shots too; but can't kick straight, like half the team (1.6 in 2nd Q). Otherwise thrashed Grundy. Look at the tape.
- As another poster pointed out, he was in the best position to take that mark. It wasn't Vickery's; and if he is such a great shot for goal, please explain why TV didn't take that one at the death when it cost us at least a draw?
- Know nothing about fairies. Your province.
- Your last two points: some truth BUT he is the best knock ruckman we have ATM. He is a very flawed footballer but there's probably only about 5/6 top ones in the whole AFL, none are at RFC.

At the least the guy had a RHG on Friday. I give hime credit for that.

But feel free to seek more therapy ....

If you think I'm easily pleased, well then you obviously know nothing about me. It's taken until this evening for me to calm down after that debacle. But I'm furious over a lot of things about my club. I waited to regain my reason before posting. That's what I'm advocating - some reason.

It's simply churlish to vent your spleen on one player after that pathetic effort when he actually played arguably his best game for us, and many more have posted that before me. So he was the only one who made errors? Jack Riewoldt flew in that pack that spoilt the ball that landed in Grundy's lap. Why don't you attack Floss for giving away the oob free that gave Moore the kick; or the umps and this stupid new rule; or Houli for his no-idea attempted smother?

But, all right, drop him. I'm sure Griff, or Bean, or Soldo would do a much better job against Jacobs next game (given Evan still out). Get back to me when that happens.

Simple Question - When this spud takes a mark anywhere inside the 50 and is lining up to shoot at goal, why aren't his teammates instructed to look for the dish off?
The guy simply is not an accurate kick and has a flawed kicking action. Team mates should know this and should be on their bikes when he takes a mark.
He cant be trusted from 15m out directly in front.
I keep reminding myself we gave up pick 35 for this clown.

Yep the bar is set very low for Hampy. He had a MODERATE game at best. He will be back in the VFL within the next few weeks and gone from this club at seasons end.

Yes they did. 29 hitouts. 16 Collingwood clearances, 10 Richmond, 3 drawn.

This has been happening for a while and getting worse because our mids are getting beaten more and more and too many small bodies since lost Tuck and Jacko. Eevan might do better but he has had many more games to build an understanding compared to Hampson. It may improve with more games/practice/experience.

BTW, don't expect H to match it with Jacobs. How could you after he trashed both of our key rucks last game. Hoping 2 ankle operations will make him more competitive now though. Jacobs would very likely show up Maric's issues now anyway.

Not even sure Eevan has injury issues. Possibly Dimma is just preserving for longevity and slower grounds than current conditions.

Not really. We actually won the clearances pretty easily but mostly off Collingwood taps. That's why it is idiotic to play a ruckman solely on his taps as it doesn't translate to clearances.

In fact you're better off providing a contest and giving the taps to the opponent and playing an extra mid/ruck rover like a Blicavs or in our case Griff or Vickery.

Hampson played a decent game by his standards. Not by the standards of a premiership football side.
His kicking is a disgrace - seriously junior footy standard and if we accept the deficiency it's no wonder we're doomed to never ever winning another flag.
He must have missed 9/10 of his set shots at RFC - I'd say all within 20m and limited angle. It's the stuff that would cost you a final.
Grundy was ordinary on the night but able to be the hero because he has a footballer's brain and very good footskills. Hampson couldn't have sharked, nor kicked, that goal in a million years.
It's this acceptance of not maintaining the highest standards, see the Morris forward experiment, the three year Chris Newman farewell tour, the love for average plonkers Like Pettard, Matt Thomas, and now Townsend that make us Richmond sadly.

Where are those figures from? CD had Richmond winning the centre clearances 13-10, and other clearances 24-14. Which was how it felt watching the game.

That was as good as Hampson is going to play. And even then his direct opponent kicked 2 goals including the sealer.

I'm not defending Hampson because i'd prefer us bring McBean up and have him Grif and Vickery share the ruck and give something when forward and around the ground, but he did give silver service to our mids against the Pies.
