I didn't think we traded a pick for O? The whole business of rucks is a very delicate balance, as others have said better than me, you can't really have 2 top-line pure ruckmen, one just plays in the seconds then asks for a trade while being paid well. We have Ivan -very good but struggling with injury) TV, ruck/ fwd, (I like him, but even if you think he's just OK he's OK as one of the rarest and most valuable commodities there is), Oren, holden belmont backup we got for free, did OK, Mc Bean in development, now Hampson, and we could well rookie/ low pick another speculator. Its not perfect but its not dire.

Come on Snake, you've marched into this debate by accusing me of making flippant remarks about reckless trading - how does a comment about ruck stop-gaps equate to this?

Once again, I'll spell it out for you. Stephenson was a stop-gap because of his age and inexperience, he is on the verge of retirement so we need to start thinking about the long term, particularly if Maric goes down. This is at the heart of my concerns, it was a reason I lobbied hard for Grundy and Hannath, and it is a problem that won't go away. We need another junior ruck in the system and we should be giving ourselves every opportunity to nail one with pick 28. If the powers that be feel the quality isn't there with a second rounder, then we should be targeting a replacement for White, a crumbing goal-kicker or a mobile HFF. On those roles, I think there are plenty of viable options, Dayle Garlett being at the top of the list, but others such as Marsh, Hourigan, Jay Kennedy-Harris, Dwayne Wilson and Jarman Impey would also be worth a shot.

As to my feelings on Hampson, I've seen enough of him to confidently predict he'll neither be Maric's heir apparent or a damaging third tall. As an insurance policy, I can live with him playing for Richmond, but a second rounder is too much to give up. He is not in the same ballpark as other second round trades such as Mumford, Jacobs, Warnock or Maric, and that is the bar that we should be setting.

Re: poll: Shaun Hampson

Hopefully the delay suggests 28 is off the table.

Way overs if hes just a backup.

The amazing mcbean was pick 33.

Using 28 has that unseemly locked and loaded smell about it.

Maybe they saw the outcry :hihi on PRE and BF and have decided to renegotiate instead on a 3rd round pic or a straight swap with Nahas, ahh now i feel betta :fing32
Yes!!! Power in numbers, I like it!!!!!!!!

Re: poll: Shaun Hampson

i dont think we have haggled much in recent years on trades. it appears we put our offer in, what we think is fair then the other team can take it or leave it.
if we think pick 28 is fair we will probably offer it, if we dont we wont.

We have some sort of rating formula that gives a player a ranking vs the kids in the draft. So if it's a weak draft this year then 28 may be right whereas in a stronger year it may be worth pick 40.

We used this formula to determine iVan's trade value.

Just a guess, but I think that Hampson would be brought in as second ruck, not third, with Vickery staying forward and rucking there only.

Correct, we need Maric to be resting on the bench, not in the forward line, the reason behind getting Hampson is so that the 2 ruckman interchange with each other off the bench thus leaving Vickery forward and not robbing us of a forward target when TV has to ruck and Maric is on the pine as this is when our structure falls down, the only reason Maric or Hampson will go up forward will be when TV is having a rest on the bench.

Re: poll: Shaun Hampson

Just a heads up, Go on afl website or afl app as After commercial break on afl trade radio they will talk bout Richmond with Wallace and Barrett

Re: Shaun Hampson Done Deal

Hampson has stated he wants to come to us instead of Hawthorn.
No deal set yet. Both clubs are working on a deal.

Sounds like we're talking a 3 rd pick but Carlton wants a 2nd

His manager confirmed we are the only club talking to Carlton and he expects a deal done sooner rather than later.

Disagreement on which pick is up for offer.
Carlton want a 2nd round. We're offer our 3rd

Can't rest rucks on the bench, mids need it. Rest in the goal square.

Dan Richo just on trade radio saying very confident Hampson will be done (looks like a 2nd-rounder). No interest in Chapman.

Dont think so BH  on trade week radio dan richardson talking and then wallace and barret saying deal pretty much done for a 2nd rounder and richardson also saying no to paul chapman

Re: poll: Shaun Hampson

Hope we tell carlton to go f themselves if they want our second pick for hampson

Re: poll: Shaun Hampson

Dan Richardson just spoke - Trade radio took the press conference.
Hampson will get done for our second round pick.
Heath Shaw Definately not happening.
Paul Chapman not happening either.
No talk on Taylor Adams - so looks completely unlikely at this stage.
Hampson is the only target they are looking at getting into the club.
Take this for what it is.

Re: poll: Shaun Hampson

BTW....our second round pick is pick 28.
Barrett and Wallace agree we are paying OVERS for Hampson.

Carlton have ripped us a new one, if we miss out on Garlett as a result I will be livid.
