If Maric got injured tomorrow we would have a competitive ruckman to fill in. A ruckman who was named in the best a few times this year and has had the better of the opposing ruckman on most days when he was first ruck. A good backup ruckman is worth a pick 32 imo. Pick 30 was used on McIntosh and I don't hear much critism of that decision, he has not played a game let alone been named in the best on few occasions. Im hopeful that Hampson will get better, once the club realises he is a first ruckman not a forward. A bit more development in the twos and we could easily be on a winner.
Small difference is that McIntosh was picked as a kid who hadn't been in the system. Hampson was picked as a seasoned (7 I think) player to fill a role immediately, NOT to be given more development time in the twos.

....and he did fill the first ruck role immediately, was in the best players against Gold Coast. He is not a forward and has never been given a long stint as first ruck, he is still young as far a ruckman go.

But clearly not well enough. Personally I get tired of hearing excuses for Hampsons inability. "He,s not a forward, he's not a first ruck, he's overcoming injuries, he's getting used to the game plan, he's become a father, he,s bereaved, he's still developing."

Said it before but he's just not good enough.

Against Bendigo
Shaun Hampson
2 goals, 11 disposals, 5 marks, 39 hit outs
Was very dominant with his ruck work and when he was up forward. Could have ended up with four or five goals if he held his marks.

I repeat this was against Bendigo. (Could have had a great AFL career if he held marks)

Story of his career. Could be anything if he could take a mark.

Unfortunately its a pretty big part of a ruckman/key forward's game.

the thing that gives me hope is that from what i have seen of him before this year is that he could hold a mark, at least easy ones. if he can start doing that again he will be a decent ruck option.

Nope. Holding his marks was his biggest weakness at Carlton as well.

He is what he is - very good at tapwork, but gives nothing else.

A handy ruck backup, but not worth his salary or draft pick.

Yet my (possibly vague and distorted) memory of him was the first game of 2013 when he took a number of marks in their forward line (over Griffiths actually - who may have been dropped after that and not played again). Maybe they were the only ones he took all year!

He even kicked one straight in that 2013 game!

Brilliant player - If the game was all about taking padded marks over your coach. Seriously, it has not worked, he is a list clogged till he is de listed (PLEASE tell me 2015 is his last Tiger year). With Maric - Ty - the emerging Griff and the developing McBean ( I know Mb B does not ruck - yet).. We dont need this tried and tested player.

Looked good on paper, it didnt work - move on!

I'm sure the coaches are making him sort his deficiencies out

His goal kicking needs work as well.

Can't work out in the life of me while we picked up a player with so many defects.
Second round pick! ::)
