Shane Kersten

Yeah it certainly would.

Leysy knows its a tight list but the fact Collingwood delisted him has to count against him somewhat. If he was impressing them enough they would have kept him on.

He struggled to get involved the time leysy saw him at VFL level, didnt use what pace he has at all & looked a bit soft, so it maybe clouding leysy's judgement from that match but you can only go on what you see.

Different strokes for different folks.

He kept training with them and it looks like they're going to rookie him if noone else takes him first. He impressed them enough to draft him last year so I can't see their opinion of him changing that quickly.

Yeah realise they'll rookie him.

If he was going really well they wouldn't let every club draft him in a shallow draft though.

Depends what the alternatives were. I don't think you have to be going really well in your first year to be kept on the list and there's no way he was bad enough to get boned halfway through his contract so obviously there was a real squeeze. Interesting to see if anyone takes him though. I'd be tempted to just to *smile* them off.

Is this Daniel Farmer we are talking about?

He was one that I was hoping we would take last year but he ended up at Collingwood. Good player.

Unfortunately, Collingwood will move him to their rookie list. When a team wants to shift a player from their senior list to their rookies list for development reasons, the other clubs won’t touch them out of courtesy. This happens every year with 4 or 5 players. If Collingwood want to rookie him, no-one will interfere. This is just my opinion, of course, but there have been several cases of this over the last few years.

Yeah, it's happened a bit. I don't see why we'd want to show any coutesy to Collingwood though. I'd have no hesitation taking him with 55.

Because one day it could be us. That is the nuisance with our league - you have to keep dealing with the same people for a decade. I mean the other clubs should't have 'let' Collingwood get Marty Clarke back for 'nothing' but they did. They all realise that one day it might be their Irish prodigal returning.

Its the same courtesy they showed us when we moved Hislop to the rookie list last year. >:D

I realise the shoe could be on the other foot one day, but at least if we take Farmer now we'll be ahead until it happens.

Yeah I was huge for Farmer last year. He had limited pre-season and his last half of 2011 was so much better then his start. Came on in leaps and bounds. By the ned of year one, he looked more then comfortable at VFL level. If the Pies didn’t have such massive list and cap issues they would have kept him. Make no mistake, the Pies Cap has been managed poorly. They have felt the squeeze and will lose a couple a year for the next 3 or 4 years. Depth will become a issue.

Back on Kersten, still a no for me. We need class around the middle.

Article in today's HUN suggests we may grab Kersten at 15 if still available....

One minute they are saying (Herald Sun) that we will take the best midfielder left over and now they are saying we will take Kersten.

I think a few porkies have been sent out by the clubs in hope of claiming the player they really want.

The more predictions you make the more like you are to get one right! ;D

Leaking more draft info just prior to the draft are we? Conca now Kersten? HSUN seems pretty adamant as they were last year. Very disappointing if true.

The West broke the Conca pick last year, which is why if they are saying we are looking at Kersten, and they say we are, then I'd say it is on the money.

I guess it comes down to the fact that the West will be all over any WA kid.

80% of the guys from WA are managed by Paul Connors. By this time there is a good chance that we have given a clue to a few managers. If nothing else a polite enquiry about if their player would be available for a quickish interview and photo opp tomorrow morning IF drafted.
