Kersten outplayed Darling last year in the same colts side. Apparently Kersten was much more athletic (under 3 sec in 20 metres, pretty big leap, etc), so injuries this year have definately kept him under the radar from the media

Sounds like a type we really shouldn't pass up.

As expected Benny not giving up much on the draft but the thing he did say was, FEV! Nah not really but did say the player we want "needs to drop". Must be Patton!

I have no knowledge of any of the prospects but if we do call kersten at 15 does it mean the club has doubts about Griffiths?

No, we don't have any KPP depth even if Griffiths was never injured.

yes - guess it would put an end to the post/astbury debate as well - down back you stay

Elton is a great get for us. Unlike Kersten he will have the ability to fill the hole forward along with being the second ruckman. In three years time it will be Elton and Vickery sharing the ruck and pushing forward and if Elton keeps growing and Griffiths establishes himself at CHF it will be a very imposing trio of athletic 199cm+ types

Kersten is a 190cm forward which is too short.

What happened to us being keen on him, carnet understand us overlooking him for Elton
Elton 197cm very gifted athlete and talented footballer. Think Ty Vickery v Matt Panos and that's the difference.

I reckon the Cats will be pretty happy to land this bloke with their second pick.

How do Geelong keep doing it?

For the picks they have, they have done extremely well. Stephen Wells.

Sorry carnet help thinking we've missed out on Pavlich mark 2!
Why did we miss out on the Pav2? Didn't he go pick thirty something? Must be a lot of other clubs just as stupid as us or perhaps he got picked around his correct area in the draft.

I know this guy has reached almost mythical status but if Kersten turns out very good then you couldn't really put it down to anything else but good luck. All he has done is pick a reasonably highly rated guy who dropped down the list .

Kersten is from Perth.

WC and Freo had 5 picks before Geelong... they are 2 teams with vast recruiting resources with Kersten in their back yard and even they didn't pick him up.

And on top of that, the Cats waited for their second pick to grab him.

Obviously not as highly regarded as some on this forum.

I think the biggest problem with Kirsten is his height. I don't know if he has any growth left in him but at 190cm he's just at that uncertain height where he's probably struggling to be a key position. Maybe that's why he slipped so far. I mean some had us picking him at 15 but he went at 34.

Cats also obviously desperate to bolster their forward stocks. Three medium to tall forwards and a small forward with their picks. Their CHF Moons gone, Ruck forward Otto gone, J Pod, Stevie J and Chappy getting on a bit leaves them with the Tomahawk, Vardy and not a lot else up forward in future years.

Cats also have Mitch Brown, Menzel, Josh Walker, and Billie Smedts as 'options' for their forward line....
