Sam Lloyd

If Lloydy becomes a depth player then that says positive things about our list. Probably shouldn't play when Castagna, Butler & Rioli are all in the side, but it's unlikely that such a young/inexperienced trio will all be able to maintain form & fitness throughout the season, so having him (and hopefully Bolton) as back ups will be very handy.

Very true. One of the harder positions on the ground being a small forward. Good to have depth in that area for sure & competition for spots will be fierce. When was the last time we had a team where our small forwards created havoc on a team ?

Lloydy just had an off night. Dropped easy marks, handballed when he should have slotted the goal, just one of those nights. He'll be back.

yep.

the list signs are positive, when good players are outside the 22.

First up run, forgive. Wouldnt be outraged to see him get another couple of runs, but without improvement, well be seeing what Lennon can offer if he keeps scoring in the 2's.

Lloyd is certainly always gonna give us more fwd pressure than Lennon, which seems heavily in his favour this year

Time will tell, but i'm thinking Sam may struggle with the quicker ball movement now being employed. His lack of pace may see him really struggle to get enough of the ball.

Interesting comment and on the surface it's fair. He kicked one. And should have had another in the third, instead made a poor attempt at a handball. If he kicks two goals a game every week you would take that. His benchmark is Dickson from the Dogs.

i havent always been a hige fan of Lloyd, but im not too concerned at this point.
he tends to have some shockers, like many FPs, but he is in the team to kick goals, and based on last year he does that. he could have easily had a couple on Thursday night then noone would complain.
i think he tends to lairise a bit too when he are winning comfortably. sometimes it works and everyone is happy. sometimes it doesnt and he has no impact.
ill back him to get back in the goals next week.

Interested as to what's happening with Sam Lloyd. I get the feeling we are seeing the career disintegration of him.

Seems to be an unintended "victim" of the recruitment of Caddy. I have a soft spot for Sam, hope he gets to turn this around.

If menadue doesn't work out, Lloyd will defiantly get a game.
He was never ever going to be a shoe in the best 22 in a decent fast side.
Caddy and lennon was never going to happen. 2 turtles alongside a tortoise in Riewoldt

Was one of the very few that improved last year and I thought his pre season form seemed OK, was tried on the wing so maybe his lack of pace doesn't fit the new forward structure ? I'd like an extra marking option down there and Lennon is probally the only other mid size type like Lloyd and he's clearly not up to it, so it surprises me a bit that Lloyds not in the 22.

If he's not in the 22 now it's going to be a tough year for him, if this forward structure keeps working it will be hard to get into and if we start losing its probally going to be tough for a 28 year old to get a go with plenty of young forwards on the list.

He's a goalkicker. Leave him there. He can also play the lead up forward role - surprised Lennon was getting a gig in front of him.

Same.

Can't have enough natural goalkickers in your forward line.

Goal kickers in the forward line is an outdated concept. Tacklers to keep in is the way to go. ::)

Personally I prefer it to come straight out of the forward line......under the boundary umpires arm.

Is one of the few smart footballers on our list. Will add some poise to the team that is currently lacking. Must replace Cartagena.
