One of the reasons Matty only had one good season is the same reason he left us is Dimma undervalued what he offered Richmond.

His speed and endurance was unique at the club but Dimma didn't value speed so Matty had very few opportunities pre 2013. To bag out his previous seasons with out taking into consideration the fact that the head coach undervalued him over a long period of time is flawed logic.

You're taking a guess at the coaches thoughts then using that guess to call my logic flawed?

Re: Welcome Sam Lloyd

He can find space to get the ball but ATM it's his final choice that's lacking

Re: Welcome Sam Lloyd

Lloyd before Gordon, any day .... but neither is going to take the Tigers to premiership glory ... stop-gap at best

Thats the way I see it. I think Gordon should be purely depth, if kept at all.

Gordon should be leaving the club at the end of the year. I cannot see him remaining on the list.

Re: Welcome Sam Lloyd

This thread is on Lloyd who is a small forward. I've posted in support of him as our best option at the moment who shows at VFL level he has got the requisite skills but just has to be able to step up to the top level, really capitalise on his chances and find consistency. But he must be persevered with. I must admit, after the Melbourne game, I thought he was a waste of space.
But, the retrospective comments are relevant here because our forward line is our weakness. We cannot kick enough goals, rely far too much on Jack still, plus must have keys mids scoring too. Whereas, opponents like Roos beat us with four SFs - Harvey, Higgins, Thomas and Nahas. Pies have their weapon in Elliot, Fasolo is handy, and others. Hawks have stars in Bruest, Rioli and Puopolo who also kick a lot of their goals. The club certainly didn't plan on losing King and Foley so early - that's another reason failing to keep White has cost us. We're now scratching around to find these SFs, with Butler and Short maybe a year or two away if they're good enough at all. At least Conca back is a positive; hope he's fit enough to not break down again. But believe that we will not be a true premiership team if our offensive game doesn't get a lot more dangerous.

Re: Welcome Sam Lloyd

Guys with elite skills kick clutch goals from unlikely positions. You do this you spread the oppositions zone wider, create more gaps and dramatically increase the pressure on the opposition backs. They then make mistakes, give away free kicks, and over commit to contests.

Lloyd and Lennon demand the tight attention of their defender and make the job easier for all the other forwards.
He will probably get dropped when Edwards comes back, but well done to Sam kicking the clutch goal. I hope the days of Dimma picking a scrubber like Morris to play forward are gone. There is no pressure like scoreboard pressure.

Shouldn't have been a sub. Let's add strength by starting him from 1st minute. Our I50 is too empty.

Who would you have a sub though? Apart from maybe Newman I'm not sure who else.

I called for Kam, but Lennon was a better choice. I'm just saying he shouldn't be a sub anyway.

I actually think sub is the ideal position for Lloyd. If he starts he seems to spend large parts of the game doing very little, whereas using him as sub allows him to come on and give us a handy goal like he did tonight.

But Kam and Lennon were really good at times too. Lennon for his strong marks and good kicking; McIntosh for his direct play and willingness to take the game on. I thought Conca might be sub, due to his lack of games, but he really added a lot of class, dash and smarts. If Lloyd can come on and almost ice the game with a killer goal or two like that, he's a great sub.

agree. i reckon he will struggle more often than not against good opposition to stay involved, but as sub a 3 kick 1 goal cameo is enough.
