Did ok. But they run off him all day. Not as good as people think.

Yeah, 3 bags of 3 goals in his first six games. In de-list territory!

BTW Griff still to get a bag of 3 in nearly 5 years in the system.

Re: Welcome Sam Lloyd

need to get thomas and grigg back into the side so will be lucky to hold his place next week

Re: Welcome Sam Lloyd

Seriously have to question the motives of those questioning this young man. Another ripper game where he does his job and kicks goals. Another preseason in him with a decent fitness regime and he will lean up (as he is a bit of a chunker atm) and get the zip needed to apply a bit more pressure. What is not to love about a richmond player who finally takes his chances in front of goal?

Re: Welcome Sam Lloyd

Will certainly take 3 goals a game from a small forward who marks well for his size.

However if we want to be a realistic top four side and for Lloyd to be a regular part of it, he needs to either gain great endurance so he can run all day or better still develop a burst of speed over the first ten metres to get clear for shots at goal with greater regularity.

He'll have a full pre-season to work on it this year, but while he's kicking 2-3 goals a game, he earns his spot.

Looked the part today. Can do it again if he gets Smith or Brennan at Subi.

Based on Brennan's game last night, Lloyd will give him fits. If Sam can get a tank, it'll prove to be an inspired pick up.

Re: Welcome Sam Lloyd

Was stiff to be dropped first time round. Isn't the classical small forward with pace, more of a Medhurst type small.

But he has smarts, isn't afraid to fly and does so with the intent of bringing the ball to ground.

Should play the rest of the year. I think he is a keeper.

Re: Welcome Sam Lloyd

Yep, not sure why people are hung up on him not being quick. He's not that player. He leads, he marks, he kicks goals. He's not the Betts type he's as you say, a Medhurst type.

Re: Welcome Sam Lloyd

the player to make way for grigg or thomas. he's just warming the seat.

Thomas was fit to play today, was the hold over emergency from VFL.

What's on for next weekend Stig? No VFL or AFL games for us.

Re: Welcome Sam Lloyd

Leave him in he forward line and let him learn his craft.

Re: Welcome Sam Lloyd

Sam 24 6 games 10 goals 13.5 disposal's

Paul Chapman 32 13 games 15 20 disposal's

3 times the money

Good value pick

Yes, perfect comparison.
But keep in mind Medhurst lost his place in Collingwood's Premiership side midway through 2010 when football changed and it all became about pressure.
Opposition coaches will watch the video and set a guy for him now because they know how damaging he can be with a few touches.
It will be interesting to see if he can be effective once being closely sat on by a quality defender because at his current fitness level there is no way he will create turnovers for us like Jake King used to do.

Re: Welcome Sam Lloyd

Leysy's with Juffa here.

Sammy's first year has been all we could have asked for. But it's not enough for him to carve a career.

He let Pittard & Co waltz around him. Was embarrassing at times. Against rebounding teams like Port that means direct goals.

Needs to get fitter. A hell of a lot fitter. Then we need to play him not as a small but 3rd forward with further pace around him and we'll see him shine, because he does have some tools. His balance, reading of the play and kicking is very very good.

This. Eddie Betts was slower than Fevola around Princess Park in his earlier years. Worth persisting with.

He does look a footballer, SCOOP.
