Sam Lloyd

Re: Welcome Sam Lloyd

Proud of Sammy.

Love it when he just follows his instincts and heads for goal.

Should have 3 goals directly made another with quick hands and was on the start to another. Ripping half. As long as he's not trying to chase guys outta the back half I'm happy

Had a sitter until it was spoilt. Let's hope we see more of this type of attack.

Re: Welcome Sam Lloyd

His lack of a 'tank' has been his downfall in the past. Let's hope he keeps his workrate up.

Re: Welcome Sam Lloyd

The game has been played to suit him so far.
We are not pushing up as far when defending (which Hardwick loves to do) where he lacks speed to get goals from space going back to goal.
He is playing deeper and the ball movement has been quick so it is all about reading the play (hard bounces everywhere on the Ethiad soil) and footy nous which is his speciality.
When we play like that he can do damage. But wen we play that big pushup slow moving crap on the MCG he gets no chance to show his magic.

Re: Welcome Sam Lloyd

Been very good in the first half.
Expect him to be I the VFL next week

Re: Welcome Sam Lloyd

As good as Sammy was offensively in the first half when we had the run of play and the ball was kicked to him he was absolutely HORRIBLE DEFENSIVELY in the 2nd half.
His opponent literally ran away from him numerous times to set up their run and carry overlaps.
Today you saw exactly WHY he should be playing AFL and exactly WHY NOT depending on what you value.
He has got ALL the tools to be an effective offensive forward but is so far off defensively it is a joke.
That being said, it is nice to know that if he gets super fit in the offseason and can improve his defensive side dramatically just to not be a liability then we have a player.

Re: Welcome Sam Lloyd

Good to see someone go back to the ressies to learn some football, and then display it in the seniors.

Re: Welcome Sam Lloyd

I'd like to think that This game for Sam Lloyd in 2016 ends in 5 goals.

I really don't think he's a long term option, but he should have been given more games than he has so far. Who did he make way for?

I do. One AFL preseason and ppl are already writing him off... makes you wonder.

Great goal sense, actually knows how to rove a pack (when did we last have a player you could type that about?) and has real footy smarts.

Like him.

Re: Welcome Sam Lloyd

Guys his nickname at MtEliza was Musta! Averaging 2 goals a game perfect for a small forward will get a better tank!

Re: Welcome Sam Lloyd

Sam certainly didn't let himself or the Tigers down today. He is ever going to be a star but a real worker bee and got the rewards today. Will he be in next week? Depends on Dimma's style of selection of playing one week then drop for the next

Exactly.
Lloyd is a goal kicker full stop. I don't care about def pressure tackles blah blah. He kicks goals. That's his no 1 job and he does it. Atm we rely on our rotating mids to chip in and kick 2 or 3. He does that job so it's an extra bonus.
He MUST stay in the team get confidence , and yes work on his other areas. But if he kicks 2 to 3 goals a game he does his no 1 job. We need a small goal kicker. He seems to be it. Ffs leave him there permanently.

Most supporters don't. Unfortunately for Sammy every single coach and selection committee know how critical it is so if he doesn't improve it drastically he will not stay in the AFL for long because as soon as he has a 2 weeks spell where he does not hit the scoreboard he will be the first one dropped. I'm not trying to sound dramatic but he was horrific defensively in that 2nd half and the coaching staff will have a field day at some of his efforts in the review.

Re: Welcome Sam Lloyd

What we've missed all year .his lead up and making a contest was good today .just needs a preseason to get his endurance and explosive speed up to get seperation from his opponent .smart player like him .

Balancing positives and negatives, I'm sure some regular players in our side get more chances no matter how obvious their negative side is. This is the whole point of trying out players in the 2nds more into the 1sts rather than dropping them quickly.

Re: Welcome Sam Lloyd

what a breath of fresh air - a proper footballer

lacks foot speed but makes up for it by never fumbling - love his one touch play, and creative goal assists

does need to build his tank though

Re: Welcome Sam Lloyd

Great footy brain. If he had speed like Robbie Gray he would be a sensation.

Re: Welcome Sam Lloyd

Did ok. But they run off him all day. Not as good as people think.
