Was signed with a 2 year contract, contracted until the end of 2015

Are you absolutely 100% sure of that?

Leysy believes it is not the case.

Re: Welcome Sam Lloyd

The CBA clearly states that any player taken in the national draft excluding promoted rookies has a 2 year contract. In regards to Lloyd, the guy has shown what no richmond player has since browny ..... He naked the most of opportunities around the goals. Reason enough to play him IMO.

No it doesn't.

Agree, and I recon he also runs his gut out, pressures and tackles. I like him and hope he is given another shot in the 1s, as a crumbing forward, before the year is out. I also recon he will come back much fitter after a full preseason in an AFL environment.

And that takes us back as to why we drafted 2 guys (well certainly Lloyd) in the ND when he probably would have been there in the rookie draft.

Certainly can't argue with that. I happen to think he is OK without being a star, he kicked 7 goals in 5 games and if you are a small forward goal sneak, scoring goals is what it is about. Personally I think the people who are judging him are way to premature, you can't decide if a player can play at this level after 5 games

I don't work in the footy dept at RFC Leysy so I can't 100% guarantee anything but the list of playing contracts I have has him contracted until 2015

Why would we sign an untried footballer up for 2 years. From where he's come from he would have jumped at any opportunity. Same goes with Gordon.

Hopefully it is only 1 for those two guys as it is pretty incompetent if a multi-year deal. Richardson is getting known for throwing multi-year contracts out undeservedly though.

Yes it does

Clause 10.3 of the CBA states:
"When a first year draft choice Player is first listed by an AFL Club, that Player and the AFL Club shall enter into a playing contract for a minimum term of two years except in the case of a Player who has previously been listed as a Rookie at any AFL Club"

Re: Welcome Sam Lloyd

What CBA is that?

This is leysy's.

24.5 First Year Player
(a) When a first year Player is first drafted by an AFL Club, that Player and the AFL
Club shall enter into a Standard Playing Contract for a minimum term of two years
except in the case of a Player who has previously been drafted as a Rookie or
where the Player is over 23 years of age by 31 December in the year in which he is
selected by a Club.

Different terms, same words on both CBAs. We just gave him a 2 year minimum as a base.

My apologies, I was reading the previous CBA. Yours is the correct one. I still have him contracted for next year, I guess we will see at the end of this year.

Nope, different words as well.

bv's looking at 2007 - 2011

the case of a Player who has previously been drafted as a Rookie or where the
Player is over 23 years of age by 31 December in the year in which he is selected by

All good bro. Played you along a bit there as knew the rules leysy had were correct. ;D

FWIW have no issue if Lloyd goes around again. There are plenty of others that (contracts pending) could be cut as he does have some AFL quality tools and some upside left.

But as said, if he did get a 2 yr deal when it was not required it is another example of poor list Mgmnt. If for just that reason hopefully leysy is correct.

Re: Welcome Sam Lloyd

If Lloyd got more than 2 years (surely no more than 3), then Dan Richo must be using that infamous 'McGun contract' as the precedent. ;D

Re: Welcome Sam Lloyd

I am still not sure Leysy ........ using the 2012 - 2016 CBA:

The CBA appears to differentiate between a "First Year Drafted Player" and a "First Year Player" and uses the terms "When a player is first listed" versus "When a player is first drafted". I would contend that Lloyd falls under Clause 9 f), a First Year Draft Choice Player.

Clause 9 "First Year Draft Choice Players" (Section f)
When a First Year Draft Choice Player is first listed by an AFL Club, that Player and the AFL Club shall enter into a Standard Playing Contract for a minimum term of two years except in the case of a Player who has previously been listed as a Rookie at any AFL Club.

Clause 24.5 "First Year Player" (Section a)
When a first year Player is first drafted by an AFL Club, that Player and the AFL Club shall enter into a Standard Playing Contract for a minimum term of two years except in the case of a Player who has previously been drafted as a Rookie or where the Player is over 23 years of age by 31 December in the year in which he is selected by a Club

Choco's comment on RFC site today:

“We hope that he can play at least half of the games for the rest of the year, and each week in the last few we’ve been talking about trying to get him back into the side."
