Sam Lloyd

Re: Welcome Sam Lloyd

Not the answer. You need to have pace to play in his role. He makes billy brownless look fasr.
Would give him one full preseason before giving him the boot

Re: Welcome Sam Lloyd

I've seen him lead up the ground, take a mark, lay a tackle and kick a goal in his short career - so he's light years ahead of most of our current best 22

Re: Welcome Sam Lloyd

Amazing a guy like Edwards being in the side when this kid gets the boot. Lloyd has shown he one of those rare players who seems to make the most of his shots on goals.

Re: Welcome Sam Lloyd

There is a lot of pressure on the guy. His lack of speed means he will struggle to get into the game so when he does get a touch it has to be magical.

Goneski
Slow as dog *smile*

Re: Welcome Sam Lloyd

Think that only applies to guys under 19 or 20, CC. Least it used to.

Lack of speed? Should be guaranteed a game by Dimma based on that.

Stick a fork in him, he's done. Unless there's a major shakeup that'll be the last we see of Lloyd. Shame, because he actually showed glimpses of something, although I think most sides (certainly top ones) would probably regard him as a good VFL player and only use him as depth.

Anyone consider that he is still contracted next year?

Re: Welcome Sam Lloyd

I would have thought he was ahead of the other mature age draftee (whom I can't remember his name!)

Is he? Do the same rules apply to mature age draftees as the younger ones? Bit of a stuff up if they do, because there's been very little from the coaching group to indicate that they have any indication of playing him much in the future.

Was signed with a 2 year contract, contracted until the end of 2015

Oh dear! I don't actually dislike him, but I think that the coaching group have stamped his papers.

Re: Welcome Sam Lloyd

I don't mind him either but it's not a good sign for a mature ager drafted in the ND to not be getting a game when we,re going so badly. Same for Gordon.

You are right there, these are not rookies players and like a "box of chocolates" these are guys targeted and contracted to the seniors!

And that takes us back as to why we drafted 2 guys (well certainly Lloyd) in the ND when he probably would have been there in the rookie draft.

Yeah, the whole idea with drafting these types is that they come straight into the seniors and can use their mature bodies, while you protect the younger guys in the VFL and bring them in gradually as you think they are physically ready to play a few games with the big boys. The RFC seems to have become obsessed with trying to find hidden 'gems' and forgotten about drafting and developing youth beyond their first pick. I appreciate that in some of the compromised drafts this wasn't possible, but last year wasn't anywhere near as badly compromised and we still only took 1 kid and traded for a Carlton reject that in hindsight has been a mistake. MUST draft kids this year, not journeymen like Lloyd.

Yes, as long as Lennon can make it as a player we might not be too badly damaged from last years draft and trade period, but only because we got Miles as a Rookie. A free agent and plenty of kids in the 2014 draft for mine.
