Round 9: Team changes against the poos & wees

Think the difference is a managed player will be an automatic inclusion the following week as opposed to no guarantee for a return of an ommited player.
It’s essentially being rested and imho is the best possible usage of the ridiculous sub rule. Rest your players as the medi sub. Break glass in case of emergency.
Those wanting Sonsie or Martyn or some other young player to be the medi sub are basically robbing them of another development game in the VFL and consigning them to watching a game from the bench. Unless there’s an injury of course.
You can still omit a player and play him the next week.
Hardly being rested or managed if he is required to play early in the game. If he is truly being rested then don’t play him at all.

Not sure I want to get caught up in word play but how do you omit a player and give them no opportunity to prove themselves in the VFL and then promote them the week later? How do you differentiate that message to players who are dropped through lack of form?
Omit means dropped on form. Required to gain it before promotion.
Rested or managed is giving the player a week off but I’m suggesting it’s an opportunity playing the percentages and playing them as the medi sub as opposed to wasting a game from a developing junior who may or may not play a minute of football like Sydney Stack last week.

Yes, not gloating, but was correct on Gibcus not playing.
Dimma says Taz is playing with an injury, so little upside.
In terms of Shedsy, contested possessions have fallen from an average of approx. 8 to 5 per game.
It is a prudent decision that he is rested.

Was surprised to see Dimma standing in the box, behind the assistants, probably due to the back pain.
He has given everything for our great club.
I hope he reaches, if not surpasses, the Hafey legacy of four trophies.

Who is going to be Sub?

I'm with @Dont Argue, you want your young players getting full minutes in games so Shedda would be the perfect sub, (Can play mid wing forward & back), he has been training this week but slightly modified, but is fit for purpose.

VFL game on Sunday.

Might be a good opportunity to make Sonsie the sub.
Pre-game routine exposure and get his first game nerves out.
Can still play on Sunday depending on TOG on the Saturday (if any).

Perhaps they reward the sub by selecting them in the seniors the following week?
Being selected as the 23rd man should be a reward not a punishment. Can’t be great for the players head space.
“Congratulations son you’re getting promoted. You’ll sit on the bench until such time as one of your mates gets injured. Unfortunately you’ll then get dropped the following week. Have a great day”

Or someone gets injured during the game - or someone is getting spanked and the coaches game the system - and the sub gets part of the game, impresses and gets selected the next week.

The matchday team is the team, the MC will select what they think is the best team. The sub rule may suck but that's how it goes. You can't reward the sub with a guaranteed game in the seniors the next week, that makes no sense IMO.

But you’re happy to punish the sub who happens to be the 23rd best available senior player?
That makes even less sense to me.

*Should preface that with if the sub doesn’t get any playing minutes.

Agreed - and in Shedda's case in particular - it gets him closer to the 300 milestone whether he gets on the ground or not.
