Round 2 Collingwood

Brenton Speed's explanation (camera not on back of post/line or same width as posts):

View attachment 9967

Perhaps. But if that's actually how it's set up, it's not of any use to decide scores. The reviewers can't guess and say "allowing for the camera angle...". It's not even 100% reliable for goals, especially for marks close to the camera.

Surely they can attach a brace so that the camera is actually flush with the goal line and pointing along the line. The goal review system has been a real mixed bag and I'm not sure we're better off than when we allowed the goal umpires to make the decisions and never saw any contentious camera footage.

BT is pathetically biased.
To further expand on his bias, did anyone else hear his commentary in the first quarter when Collingwood was on top? Wayne Carey was commenting on how slick Collingwood was and how well they were using the ball; compared to our at that time scrappy play. All of which was true.

BT responds in his over the top ridiculous voice; "Sooooooo Duck, you're saying Collingwood is a more skilled side than Richmond?"

What a flog

If only bathwater was all Syd has been drinking:rolleyes:

You think he's enjoying his lifestyle Caesar?

Similar to Egg, if he isnt prepared to embrace the elite athlete workload, he will struggle to make it. It won;'t be as black and white as Egg as Stack packs a lot more talent. But lack of work ethic will dilute talent in most cases

Can't be too critical when they're a little undermanned against the reigning premier. They got the jump on us, they earned the right to turn it into a slog.
Yes they did earn the right but that methodology will not win them a flag. Very negative to try to stop a team scoring for 3 qtrs

That Higgins decision was a strange one. The goal review is there for goal reviews, which is why the camera is situated looking across the line between the goal posts. We had a decision to be made in a situation where the incident was between a goal and a behind post. While watching the footage I was going back and forth on whether I thought it was a mark or a point - from what I know the rule is that if the mark is taken cleanly and the whole ball was not over the line then that is a mark. But you couldn't see that as the goal post obscured the view. I don't think you can blame the goal review system for this and I think a decision either way would have been reasonable. I suppose they went with what was more probable, it was more probable that Higgins touched the ball commencing his mark before all of the ball was over the line.

Scrappy game, both teams out of sorts, not really upset coming away with a draw.

My understanding is that the goal post constitutes ' the line', including the padding. So if the ball was obscured by the goal post isn't that the key observation?

That is NOT where the camera is placed, it's placed toward the rear of the post in line with the rear of the goal line

Pretty sure this is the opposite camera, so I'd say it's in the guts.
From this angle it's the correct call..... Anyway, Collingwood ought to STFU after that non call in last years prelim!

That's an interesting question. I always thought it was the line and I remember that mark by an Adelaide player in the 2017 GF where that was what was stated and the mark was paid. However, if the ball hits the padding and is over the line when it does so, it is still a behind as it hit the post. Bit of ambiguity there I reckon.

Yes, but the mark needs to be completed prior to crossing the line, as with a mark on the boundary line. IMO that's the bit that is contentious in the whole thing. Regardless, it was called a mark and we move on. About time we got one, 'cause the umps have been reaming us for a few years now.

I'm not sure about others, but reading these match day threads from the beginning sort of "does me head in" as far as emotional roller-coasters go. So I'm here to apologize if this has been discussed. ....

I'm not too stressed about lastnight, as the pies have shown what their plan is against us and they won't get to see what we do to counter it until maybe it's too late, should we both make it to whenever.
Think we'll be right when we get the full-on love-in back in action at training.
My thoughts exactly.
I think we got a really good wake up call about being switched on from the get go.
There is a lot of upside left in the Tigers. We were as rusty as. Turned it over continually.
F50 entries were a shambles.
F50 structure seemed missing.
I imaging some very proud Richmond footballers would have walked off last night feeling a little embarrassed with their performance and very determined to make amends.

If we meet the Filth at the business end of the season, with us primed and raring to go, I'm confident that we will prevail.

The ball is in Higgins’ hands before it is completely visibly past the goal padding.

The padding of the goal post ends on the line (look at the ground), however the point post at the back is not perfectly in line with the padding.

It’s probably a slight camera angle issue giving us an extra 2-3cm, now that I look closer

Hit the wrong button. I think Soldo is doing a terrific job. He played on the competitions best tonight and held him to a reasonable game.

Yes, I realise I am probably in the minority, and I've often been in Soldo's court as in defending his place on the list. But I still think what I posted. Especially with this shortened game, highly-skilled players are really the difference. It seems to me Soldo's taps are often sharked by the opposition or go straight to them. His marking is quite average and he doesn't have great hands overall. Not quick to move of course but kicks ok, not great.
Grundy probably had the wind taken out of his sails by Stack's brave bump; after that Soldo did better. Grundy also grapples, wrestles, shoves and elbows opponents prior to and in the ruck contests - and umps mostly let him. In one contest on the near side flank, he was allowed to elbow Soldo in the lower face or neck. Play on.
But, overall, I just happen to think a more natural and gifted all-round footballer/ruckman in CCJ will be the long-term answer. To his absolute credit, big Ivan gives it all he's got, as does Nank. Until CCJ is ready, I believe we will select either Nank or Soldo according to the opponent.

The conditions were perfect for us last night.
It wasn't the Dew that destroyed us, it was the inability to hit up targets going forward.
We seem to be always rushed going into forward 50.
We needed Foley last night.

I really don’t enjoy how comfortable some posters are in alluding to our aboriginal players as lazy. I don’t hear the same talk about others who seemingly underperform at times or haven’t yet lived up to their potential.

FFS, is this a gee up.

I recall it being said about Dan Connors, Ben Lennon, McBean and even Vickery to name a few from recent years.

Just saying what I think briz. Not directed at anyone in particular. I read the forum on my phone without looking at who is posting. I’ve been seeing it here and there for the last few weeks.

Commentators are idiots. Dust has 2 premierships, 2 Norm Smiths, 1 Brownlow and yet they still compare DeGoey to him. Give it a rest u idiots.

I was watching with a Crows supporter. Made a comment about the Pies being called "brave". His response was interesting. "Typical Victorian commentator, all Vic teams are brave". Guess he doesn't watch much of our games. Oh, and it was a laugh when Jack kicked short, Crows mate chuckled until I pointed out Jack must have been thinking it was the 2017 Grand Final..
