Round 2 Collingwood

I may be wrong but Shanks seemed to be playing an awful lot in the back line. Hope his sting down there last year does not get the coaches playing him there too much as he is so important fwd of centre with his hand balls and great kicking...

FFS, is this a gee up.

I recall it being said about Dan Connors, Ben Lennon, McBean and even Vickery to name a few from recent years.
100% correct BT24...FB you really need to go back and read a lot of past comments as PLENTY of players black or white have copped an absolute rocket on the forum for being lazy footballers.

They were saying on Fox that he's worth $1m a year for 3 years in his next contract. Wow, there's no way I would be paying De Goey $1 million for his flashes of briiliance.
Agree. This is the whole ‘Natanui Syndrome’. The occasional highlight, but a career that is punctuated with inconsistency or where he cannot get on the park often enough. Commentators get stiffies at the most innocuous possession, but when you analyze output (and success) it delivers sweet FA.

I was watching with a Crows supporter. Made a comment about the Pies being called "brave". His response was interesting. "Typical Victorian commentator, all Vic teams are brave". Guess he doesn't watch much of our games. Oh, and it was a laugh when Jack kicked short, Crows mate chuckled until I pointed out Jack must have been thinking it was the 2017 Grand Final..
:mhihi

Reckon your Crows mate should get back in his little box when it comes to footy. All he needs is a reminder of how the Richmond Football Club destroyed the arrogant Adelaide Football Club in the 2017 GF and in the aftermath as well. From unbackable favourites in the 2017 GF to missing the finals in the 2 subsequent seasons. It's been a fair fall and it will be a long time before they recover.

Oh, no worries. I was wearing a 2017 Premiers T-shirt as were my two boys. And I keep apologising for destroying his club. He takes it well.

A nice touch wearing the 2017 shirt as opposed to the 2019. Just twist that knife a little deeper :rotfl2

The main take aways for me, Richmond didn't lose, and more importantly, Collingwood didn't win.

IMHO, a pretty poor showing by both teams on the night.

5 goals each is not that awe inspiring, and the so called favourite grand finalist could not kick a goal after the 10 minute of the second quarter.

And, no goals in the the final quarter at all by either side.

Will watch the other games and see if there is any improvement in scoring.

If this is to be the norm then the game will lose a lot of fans, or at least I think so anyway.

Wonder what the reason was for such a dearth of goals??

Is it the lack of games under the belt with such a long layoff?

Where, I might add was our usual run and carry game plan?

I add this as an addendum.

Our game has thrived on high scoring and that was certainly lacking last night.

My thoughts for the day, except to say we should have won, except for some woeful decisions in the forward line.

How did JR, who took his only mark for the night in the forward 50, not make the distance.

So ends my gripe for the day.

We would've slapped them if we could've played the extra 24 or 26 minutes.
They were running on the spot for 2 and half qtrs,, in a shorten version of AFL.
Its a joke.

That's an interesting question. I always thought it was the line and I remember that mark by an Adelaide player in the 2017 GF where that was what was stated and the mark was paid. However, if the ball hits the padding and is over the line when it does so, it is still a behind as it hit the post. Bit of ambiguity there I reckon.

DS
The flags are also considered part of the goal post if the flags are jutting out the the ball must pass them as well if the ball crosses the line at that level.

The correct decision was paid despite Taylor's protestations.

I think the standard will improve. To major factors last night was the low fitness base and teams not being able to train together until the last 3 weeks, and only then in groups of 8. Our forward entries were awful (kick it long to Lynch) and forward midgets were ineffective. Quality of the game not helped by Bucks flooding from the second quarter onwards. Such an overrated coach.

Easy to see how the standard will improve over the next month.

Are the short quarters to stay for the whole season, or just temporary?

my take was, when he appeared in vision from behind the posts, he had already caught it , it was already in his hands carrying it back it back with momentum,

the only way you could rule he caught it behind the line is if you see him actually do that , you see him appear with it in his hands

Commentators are idiots. Dust has 2 premierships, 2 Norm Smiths, 1 Brownlow and yet they still compare DeGoey to him. Give it a rest u idiots.
Someone posted similar on twitter. You are also missing his Leigh Matthews award and two Gary Ayres awards. plus all his All-Oz nominations and squad inclusion. And also apparently DeGoey has never finished in the top 10 of Collingwood's B&F.

I'm pretty sure that's incorrect. The flags would only come in to play if the ball came in contact with them, then they are considered part of the post and it is a point.
I would be amazed if it states anywhere in the rules that the ball has to be fully passed the flags, only at the flag height and only between the posts, for it to be considered "over the line".

Just coz BT says it, doesn't make it so ;)

Yeah Bruce annoyed me no end last night with that drivel where it was constantly, oooo Dusty and De Goey in there together as if they were some sort of equals. If he's replaced the name De Goey with Pendlebury I wouldn't mind. I'm not sure I've ever seen Pendlebury have a bad game, outstanding footballer.

One thing that clearly stood out and really gets my goat is that when the pies are tackled,or going to be, they just let the ball go. Not a disposal, just drop it, or in Degoey’s case throw it away. I reckon this is coached into them.

Countless time's Adams dived into a tackle, with the umpire calling for a ball up.
Degoey throws the ball, play on.
How they think the X Sydney player was good has me .....he was average at best.
Grundy couldn't handle constant contact at the centre bounces.
Elliott lives on the form of 5 years ago.

I really don’t enjoy how comfortable some posters are in alluding to our aboriginal players as lazy. I don’t hear the same talk about others who seemingly underperform at times or haven’t yet lived up to their potential.

Fastin you are drawing a long bow there, there has been no generalisations it has clearly been about one player who has not put in the work period and his performances reflect that.

I think a few boys like KMac, Jack Ross etc would be gobsmacked that club standards have been waived in favor of talent.

Look Syd is a potential star with more talent in his little finger than most but it ain't just going to happen.

PS. I have been defending my boy Shai from day 1 against the knockers of him being lazy and selfish so there shouldn't be anything for you to feel uncomfortable about in my comments I hope?

completely agree.

If we got a dollar everytime bruce refers to Pendles basketball background though, we'd all have about a grand

Pendles is incredible and unique
