Round 2 Collingwood

"Richmond’s Jack Higgins took a mark which appeared to be taken over the goal line in the second [actually the third] quarter. He kicked the goal. It was a mistake, surely, and the AFL will need to explain the decision on Friday."

- Robbo

It's late and I'm biased but I can't quite see a gap between ball and post (click to enlarge).
..
Of the many howlers perpetrated by the video review system, I don't think this is one of the most grievous. The picture is at worst inconclusive.

Maybe he's just trolling Collingwood supporters.
I reckon it was a mark as the 'whole' ball wasnt over the line imo.
I'll take it yet I'm bias too :) lol :)

I thought exactly the same. DTLD was composed, articulate and very genuine. Should definitely do more media for us, give Cotch and Jack a well earned break.

Was interesting when he said he wasn't exhausted at the end like he was expecting, due to the shorter quarters , with some of the guys saying how the game passed very quickly.
Who is DTLD?

Why is no one talking about the blatant free on Lynch when he had his arms chopped by Roughead half way through the last quarter?

He was 40m out directly in front.
I thought that was a 50/50 decision to be fair. Sometimes they're paid, sometimes they're not. Not the worst I've seen against us. Lynch probably should have marked it anyway but then again it was quite slippery. Plus the Edwards kick was a bit high and gave Roughead the chance to spoil; should have put it a bit more out in front of him.

I'm more annoyed with Jack not scoring from 35m out basically dead in front. That's the game there.

She's early days but its a bit like footys version of 20/20 cricket and you can't afford to be slow out of the blocks. I loved the crowd noise, lots of mistakes and happy with the result, at quarter time it didn't look great.

One game in 8 months plus very artificial training conditions the last 10 weeks had a negative impact. Lowest aggregate game score since 1999. (Asterix 20% less football)

i took 2 things out of this game.

1. we were rusty as hell and will be better for the run. But we were all over them since halfway through the second quarter and should have buried them in the end.

2. Collingwood don't believe they can beat us pound for pound, so they resorted to parking the bus with this insane 18 man zone. They are to blame for making it ugly and there was some evidence last night that we have the edge over them mentally.

In the second half of the second 1/4, has been a total liability in the first 1/4 and a 1/2
Take the 1/2, carry the 1/4 and add to the....
Nope you lost me.
In the first half of the 2/4 was he better than the last quarter of the half?
If I get through a half a six pack is it a good half or a bad quarter ?

Defensively they're good, but we were absolutely shocking coming inside 50.
That was the game in a nutshell for me.

Howe is absolutely elite. Moore is a good player and Roughead is very serviceable. Maynard is actually one of the great kicks in the game. For an untidy looking bloke, his kicking is silk. They make good decisions coming out of defence.

So our method of going forward was a real head-scratcher. Surely with the speedy team as picked the plan was to run the ball into the forward line? Some of the bombs forward looked like we were preferring the safe option. It played right into their hands.

Hope we're better for the run.

Who is our forward line coach?

Entry into forward line seemed to lack any structure. The mosquito fleet, especially Rioli, were missing. Jack was all at sea. George looked lost.
Thank goodness for Tommy Lynch ( and Higgo) who always looked dangerous.

Too many passengers. Interesting that most of them were the kids.

I think we need to pick a taller team against the pies as get us in the air. Guys like McIntosh and Caddy would make a difference.

Pies flooding was a disgrace.

Sorry Ridley completely disagree. That was not 50-50. He didnt mark it because he his arms were clearly chopped by Roughead. That free was clear as day.

good point, but one thing... surely the camera would be positioned on the other side of the goal as we can't have it in play?

Collingwood received softer frees than that during the night

I agree. In fact I thought the one that wasn't paid was more blatant than the one that was paid. I reckon the one that was paid could have been a 50/50, the second one was a clear arm chop (much more forceful too)

I'm not sure about others, but reading these match day threads from the beginning sort of "does me head in" as far as emotional roller-coasters go. So I'm here to apologize if this has been discussed. ....

I'm not too stressed about lastnight, as the pies have shown what their plan is against us and they won't get to see what we do to counter it until maybe it's too late, should we both make it to whenever.
Think we'll be right when we get the full-on love-in back in action at training.
