Round 17 - the stuck in Dubbo airport games.

MFC again fail to kick 10 goals in a match. Forward line is dysfunctional and unless they can fix it quick, they are done for 2022.

On Geelong, couple of weeks ago they were banging on about heavy training loads and being prepared to drop games. Yet now they are running over the top of sides. Something doesn’t add up here.
It would help if Elvis wasn't soo selfish

Who do we want to win tonight? Swans or Dogs? Swans win they go above us but Bulldogs start to be dropped from the pack - increases our chances of making finals, or if the Dogs win, it keeps Sydney in that bottom part of the 8, giving us a better chance of a home elim final

I think we look ahead, not in the rear vision mirror. Got to finish 4-6

Freo's spot is ours for the taking. They play St K (Marvel), Swans (Optus), Tiges (Marvel), Dees (Optus), WB (Marvel) over the next 5 weeks.

We just got to keep on winning. Go Dogs tonight!

Definitely the Swans. I said this last week - you want to get a spot in the 8 first as soon as possible before worrying about your final position. And right now we’re still in amongst a stack of competition for the 8. We want one of those to drop off tonight - and that’s the Dogs.

If we win on Saturday and the Dogs lose we effectively go a long way to knocking out two teams from competing with us for a spot. If we win and the Dogs win its just the one. We’re still in a battle with them just to make the 8.

Definitely want the Swans to win. 110%. Eliminate the competition first.

There are none. I remember when I was a kid I had a big hardcover footy book with a lot of pictures. They had colour aerial photos of all the footy grounds, KP, G, Waverley, WH, PP, WO, Arden St, Moorabbin and Lake Oval, with a spiel describing each one and tactics that were typically employed. It was great. They varied a lot in dimension and playing surface. And they described how it was a unique feature of the game, and was because it started as a game played on cricket fields.

There is not as much variation now of course with new stadiums using the G as a benchmark. KP is a big outlier, especially considering they rebuilt it and kept the old 1860s dimensions. From their perspective I can understand why they did it, but the pulled the wrong rein IMO.
the greatest white elephant in any afl room currently....kardinia park
mcg 160 x 141m
kp 170 x 115m
soccer pitch proportions with parallel boundaries makes switching play too risky
frequent congestion makes for one dimensional, boring, unwatchable viewing
which moron/s ticked these ground dimensions off?

win as many games as we can -

five wins out of 7 games leaves us with 14 wins and we will finish in the 5th to 7th bracket
15 wins and we finish top 4

sydney much more likely to finish on similar wins, 14 or 15 so i think a bulldog win is more favourable to us, if you believe we will get 14 plus wins.

if your expectation is that we finish on only, 13 or less wins Sydney will finish above us, and the we would be competing against the bulldogs for the last place in the 8. in that case we would prefer sydney to win this weekend

in summary, the preferred outcome of the bulldogs v sydney depends upon how many games we will end up winning. if you think we will scrape into the 8, then we want a sydney win. if you think we will be challenging for top 4, then a bulldogs win is preferable

I hate having to listen to the commentators fawning of Buddy, no matter where the Swans play.

Doesn't help them in finals. The table below is games against the top 8 in H/A and also in finals. They are nothing if not consistent. 2022 is using the current top 8 which obviously could change between now and the end of the season.

I'm banking on "footy karma" coming to bite them on the arse. Would be nice if they copped a Optus Stadium final against Freo.

I reckon it would be sweeter if they got another final against Freo here in Melbourne, play them down at crapdinia park again and lose again just like 2013.

Aim high. If we can't make the 8 then we're not good enough and it's time to reset.

I reckon they had a couple of hard sessions leading up to the West Coast game, then tapered to 'peak' for us and Smellbourne.
