Round 17 - the stuck in Dubbo airport games.

Said the same thing last night. He was clearly in better positions on his own and the “stars” just ignored him.

This is why they will never be us. We look for others at every opportunity even going the other way and looking for other options when we should be kicking for goal (Shai and Bakes did this on Sunday).

Tremendous win by Dad's Army at Meth Central.
Said at the start of the year, I only wanted to see one thing, first and foremost.
Melbourne to be denied a back-to-back.

Geelong did something against us and even more so against Melb. last night
move the ball quickly , seriously quick
thinking they have recognised Melb.'s defense is very good if allowed to be set up
so quick ball movement is the way to go

in the second half against up they regressed to the chip chip chip
I'd say we have to be prepared for a different geelong next time we meet them
they will now believe in this new style and continue to hone it between now and the finals
They may have off-loaded one ex-Tiger AC in Matty Knights who's attacking instincts were very likely over-ruled by Scott's defensive fixations. But there are clear signs like Grigga briefing Scott on strategy in the box, that another ex-Tiger having greater influence - after debacles of previous years.

He is also doing much more media representing the Moggies. Clear signs Shaun Grigg has elevated status there; wouldn't be at all surprised if BigHead has been instructed to take more advice onboard from his ACs - especially someone from a flag-winning club. Grigga always a savvy footballer.

Their Gameplan is much altered and has multiple layers now. [But club always seems so lucky with injuries - as I've often posted before - get a few like this year even (but still few given player age profile), but never a swathe of injuries like we have over last couple of years].

Yes, it's always a dilemma ... that is no longer one when the possessor kicks the goal, converts the chance. But if it's blown, everyone gets aggrieved.

Yes, it's frustrating, with these opps that Shai and Bakes wasted - can remember Shai's and he clearly was going to go for goal, then saw JR8 and probably team ethos went through his head, so decided to pass off. You could virtually see his brain working. But by the time he'd changed his mind, Jack was covered and goal gone. Often, just indecision can kill you.

But, to his credit, DRioli - same thing. But backed himself, took the extra ground he could take with a bounce, and kicked truly from maybe 40m. Hope the team rule is - always give off to a team-mate who's in definitely better position, otherwise go bang.

See many players from other teams - Fritsch is copping it again as a prime example - who frequently burn their team-mates.

MFC again fail to kick 10 goals in a match. Forward line is dysfunctional and unless they can fix it quick, they are done for 2022.

On Geelong, couple of weeks ago they were banging on about heavy training loads and being prepared to drop games. Yet now they are running over the top of sides. Something doesn’t add up here.

What are the actual rules with ground dimensions?

Geelong's is so different it should be outside regulations.

If not, some interstate team like Gold Coast should change Metricon to a square ground with a loop De loop in the middle.

Guarantees finals every year.
There are none. I remember when I was a kid I had a big hardcover footy book with a lot of pictures. They had colour aerial photos of all the footy grounds, KP, G, Waverley, WH, PP, WO, Arden St, Moorabbin and Lake Oval, with a spiel describing each one and tactics that were typically employed. It was great. They varied a lot in dimension and playing surface. And they described how it was a unique feature of the game, and was because it started as a game played on cricket fields.

There is not as much variation now of course with new stadiums using the G as a benchmark. KP is a big outlier, especially considering they rebuilt it and kept the old 1860s dimensions. From their perspective I can understand why they did it, but the pulled the wrong rein IMO.

Yep. Dees fans saying how much they need Tom McDonald back. Not sure he is the great 'red-and-blue' hope or cure-all.

Weideman looks a bust who cannot hold his place in the side; Sideshow Bob is pretty one-dimensional despite a good snap goal last night. Fritzy an ego-head; SFs easily curbed.

Many Qs re the Moggs, especially re low injury count continually and salary cap 'flexibility' - how they can always be in the market for any quality FA that comes on the market.

Reckon that last question is equally if not more deserving of Carlton and Essendon. Every year those 2 clubs throw money at players from other clubs. Every year.

There's a ripper thread on here that one of the PREnders did with ground dimensions of all the stadiums. Can't remember the title.

I'll try and find it, Kardinia Park can't be 1860s dimensions, they only started using it post WWII.

There are rules on this but it is pretty flexible as the ground size has always been within certain parameters. You should see the size VFL Park was, massive is an understatement. Kardinia Park is long and narrow, but it has been that way for a long time so they get to keep it.

Totally agree, was just focusing on Geesooks here. But, relax, an organisation like the AFL would never allow anything untoward to go on.

Yes. The integrity and competency of the AFL makes me feel comfortable that everything is above board.

Looking forward to the usual Cats meltdown come finals, the expectations are bigger than ever.

The Dees played about 5 minutes of decent foot and were still in it near the end. On the G in a final the Dees and Tigers just win over the Cats.

Cats could be flag favourites before years end, they are the biggest lay since the bulldogs last year.

I recall in 2018 , i think the football world saw our premiership as a blip like the Doggies in 2016 and were lining up to have a whack at us
and we were , and stated it publicly , determined to show it wasn't a fluke
I reckon every side played their best game of the year against us and we absorbed it and sat 2 games clear at the end of the season
but it took its toll , now its Melb.s turn , they are the benchmark and everyone is studying them

lets hope our guys have learnt something from last night , we might have to trample over the Demons on the way to a premiership :)

Agree, I thought the cats were desperate, played desperate whilst Slowbourne were more just going through their paces.

It may shock Geesook fans, but Melb, like the tigers, won’t lose twice to Geesook twice in half a season. I think the club and the players knows this as well.

Yeh, Gawn rusty, May & Lever very disjointed, Fritsch poor.

This could be better than any other Cats failure becuse of all this talk of how they have changed so much. I listened to a bit of SEN and they were raving about Rohan's pack splitting competing. Gary Rohan!! The same Gary that has failed miserably every time a game meand something. And Hamish Mc on 7 was wrapping up Zach Guthrie as having arguably his best ever year. Not saying much, and he was poor last night.

Wait until the pressure of finals seeps through the joint.

That Gary Rohan 'hard tackle to prove his point' tackle was laughable last night.
