'Little men in green'Yes, both close ones were determined at the end - again - today by umpiring interventions. Frees that created the match-winning goals were IMO from dubious umpiring interventions: Sicily played on attempting to gain distance by swinging out for a long shot at goal to win. Green caught him with a hard bump as he kicked it; proven by how the kick went so askew (from the consistent length and quality of Sicily) out on the full. What is he meant to do? Give him a high-5 as he runs by!?
Yeo lays a fierce tackle on Norf player to prevent a match-winning goal; almost high but just OK. But he wasn't pinged for that. Ball burst out and falls into his lap as he falls over with the tackle. Then another Norf guy buries him so ump pings him HTB with absolutely no prior. That determined this match. Norf got another subsequent goal but WCE's chance was gone following that crap decision.
It's just the BS legacy of the Gil and Shocking era. In a billion $$ industry football code, where equalisation has levelled up the comp, we are paying good money to watch little men in green determine results ... so often. I understand fully about the major issue of concussion which holds a threatening sword over the game's future and support protecting the head (if only it included our players too, or Toby Greene), but neither tackle nor bump was high.
In my view, neither of those frees would have been paid in the context of the history or tradition of the game. (Sheesh, in times past, like numerous big finals, we know umps would lose the whistle!!)
It's just a victory for SOFT. It's BS.
Reminds me of that outer space Bugs Bunny character...what'shisname.
