Dylan Grimes underwent surgery today to repair a ligament injury to his left thumb that occurred in the second quarter of Saturday’s AAMI Community Series match against Hawthorn. At this stage Grimes’ availability is doubtful for Round 1 against Carlton.

Miller time? No Astbury, Houli, Grimes and possibly Vlastuin. Very different back 6.

Based on that I say we lose.

Not good if the co-skip misses and Vlas doesn’t come up in time
Bit of added pressure for Tarrant and Gibcus to cope - and even Miller too if he has to be considered.

Someone on BigFooty said we likely miss Prestia and Soldo too.

So we go in without Lambert, Graham, Soldo, Prestia, Grimes, and possibly Vlastuin.

I know a lot of sides get injuries but can anyone tell me the last time we had anything near a best 22 available, and didn't also lose a player to injury in that game? Has to be 2018 surely, we've been copping it ever since.

I worry about a re-hash of 2019, 2020 and 2021 where we were constantly losing players, but things playing out more like 2021 than 19/20.

Bugger, outside Lambert I hope the rest are all good for round 2.

Not sure why people think Vlastuin won’t play. Burge said he was right for Round 1.

Think Aarts is a lock at this stage. Not my first choice but has probably done enough not to get dropped from the dress rehearsal in Tasmania.
Pickett won’t play

Ok let’s say Aarts comes in. Who is the sub?
Probably one of Stack, Pickett or Dow but just have a feeling it’s Stack or Dow before Pickett. He seems on the outer atm. His fitness and application can’t be questioned so not sure why he played twos on the weekend. Perhaps like Stack, to give him a full hit out?

Any thoughts about using Balta at FB in this game (even for just parts of the game) if it turns out that Grimes and Vlaustin are both out?

It‘s going to be a risk if the full back line was to be made up of the likes of Tarrant, Gibcus, Broad, Miller

Nah start him forward regardless. He trained there all pre-season and killed on Saturday. Let's not jump at the first sign of concern down back.

Tarrant came for a reason and Miller has been around long enough to play (if it gets to that).

Let them worry about us. Carlton have little in the way of key backs and will be worried if we start the 3 talls.

Tarrant, Gibcus, Miller, Biggie are enough cover if Grimes is out.

They play Biggie down back ,and he shows flashes , but I wonder how he would go on a wing ?
reckon he could be the fastest player on our list over 50mtrs and could terrorise sides in the big open spaces between the arcs
