Robin Nahas

Are you all blind? Nahas like so many others in the past 30 years, plays a few good games and we stupidly reward them. He played ok-well at the start and the finish of the season - for the mid 14 or so games he was barely average. This is what RFC does time and time again. Do you honestly believe that he is the best in his position, that no other can do better? He is not consistent and he can not stick a tackle on a regular basis. I'm sorry but I thought the clean out we had last year would continue this off season, but clearly not!

A two year extension would not seem OTT considering the year he had.

Good on Robin with staying with the Tiges, definitely had bigger offers elsewhere - maybe the family ties have held sway. Considering the return on the scoreboard this year no surprise with the 2 year deal.

What a change in a year! In the last game against Port he seemed to be trying too hard and getting caught with the ball - played like a desperate footballer trying to stay on the list.

Had a really good preseason and obviously carried it through the season - hopes would have to be high for another big year next year. :clap

Great job richmond on getting Nahas on a two year deal. Good on Robin sticking with the tigers. He turned his career around in season 2011 and became a very important player to the side. Robin has shown this year what perseverance and hard work can do. Hope Robbie can take his form into the pre-season and have another big year in 2012!

One average to good year and you all think he is all Australian! Have a look what he has produced for this club over his career, is it great No, Is it acceptable No, it is below average I'd say yes (and he said it too!). He has a reasonable year in a team that finished 12th! (please remeber that we finished 12th!), that is all. IMO he is and always will be an average player. You want this team to progress? well I'm afraid we won't with the same players we have now. We need to keep turning the list over to find better than Nahas. I bet you would all like to keep edwards as well, although he turns the ball over repeaqtedly and is a shocking shot for goal, but by gee he had a great last match!

Well done to Robin. 30 goals is a very good result from a small forward - and ran with the ball often to try and break lines. Here's hoping for even better things next year.

And as for Timtam, no, I don't think Nahas is AA and never will be. But a solid, honest footballer who has been rewarded for an excellent 2012.

Exactly my point - One swallow doesn't make a summer! How many players has this club "rewarded" for a half decent year - something may I say, that is expected of them, not out of the ordianary. You ask why this club remains mid table for so long - well when you keep and reward "I don't think Nahas is AA and never will be" type players, then that is where you end up season after season. Sorry but the truth hurts and I have 30 years of RFC mediocrity and rewarding "Good" players who played in a poor team to back my theory up!

I'd like more than one woudn't you? And I would trade Nahas
Don't get me wrong, I barrack my heart out when they play, but I also want to see them progress, and what we have done with Nahas we have done with many a player in the past and it hasn't progressed the team. I guess the next two years will bare this out.

Good news assuming he comes back and adds 4 or 5 kgs and works on lowering his centre of gravity in contested situations.
Always been a fan but bigger contracts now require another step up.
None of us really know if he can do it but we will see in a few months time when we get to see if he is still a whippet.

Always said he has the rare talent of doing back to back 100m sprints which simply is an outstanding attribute but depending on the size of his contract (2 years is fine anyway seeing most of our big guns are signed up until then) he really will need to be solid next year to justify it.

As always... time will tell.

Nahas is the best player in his position (small forward) on our list.

Does that mean we should condemn him for this? Of course not. It means we keep him at the club until we find someone better.

And I'd suspect the club will reward Nahas for his "half-decent" year with a top 5 finish in the B&F.

For an untried 18-year old? Good move, we don't have enough teenagers running around.

You want a ruckman don't you? You have to give something to get something, and I can tell you now we have many a player that could fulfill Nahas role on the list, how many big ruckman do we have? It's about growing the team can't you get that? Nahas is replaceable, I'll repeat that outlandish claim. In my humble opinion I believe Nahas is not a super star and his role in the team can be covered off by other players and I would prefer to trade him off for another need.

Hold on here's a thought... Let's promote Nahas to be our number one Ruckman he's had a good season. (mind you I think Adelaide already tried this once!)

As our team develops over the next few years we have quite a few that could potentially be All-Australians. The nature of being a bottom side means you don't get many. Riewoldt, Deledio, Cotchin, Martin, Vickery, Rance, Conca plus fair chance we add another good player this draft plus we should get an out and out getting a star next year's draft. They are all capable of being in an All-Australian side if we can make a Grand Final.

Who on our list could do Nahas job better than him?

King, we don't need a second 1/2 small forward. Is it North that has more than one small forward - oh they finished 9th!
We tried a multiple small forward front half a few years ago (I can't remember their names it was about 8 years ago) it worked once and after two more failures was never seen a gain as a forward setup! those players were then delisted.
I would rather another Martin'esk (build of player) resting up forward/rotating than Nahas. I'd even give weberly a run up their pushing deep from half forward.
But lets agree to disagree and let the next two years decide who's right or wrong. This post makes for some interesting reading especially if you go from the very start of this thread - I am not alone in my opinion of Robin - I'd just prefer batman!

Is King better than Nahas though? King is restricted to being a forward IMO. Nahas can play up the ground and break lines. IMO he deserved a new contract. Not saying we shouldn't try to draft someone better. If in 2 years he is delist worthy then go for it. This isn't the year to delist him though.
