Robbie Tarrant

I think Tarrant has been unlucky to a degree. Dropped into a totally new system, dealing with a hip issue, often played without our two most experienced defenders (Grimes and Vlastuin), Gibcus and Nyuon's improvement being quicker than expected.
Yeah, agree.
Also it's not as if he can jam himself an enema and magically all the :poop: Brad Scott fed him flows out freely.

Think the footy dept will be very careful as to how handle the message to both Robbie and those on the outside looking in.... ie; should we target an older experienced player in the future, how we treat them etc

bringing Tarrant to RFC was a decent idea at the time

but he's no Dave Astbury

and with the younger guys showing something he's up against it

Yeah agree - and I really thought we’d get 2 years of excellent service out of him with Astbury type defence and a little bit more.
So far he hasn’t shown much but he’s there if things go pear shaped

Yep rather than Tarrant being seen as a failure, I prefer to see this as a massive positive.
Yeah it was the right move to get him and now it’s the right move to play the kids whose output will be roughly the same now but the upside is much higher for longer.

Club was brave then and is being brave now. And he’s plug and play if required. Super depth.

Just for the record whilst Tarrant was 32 when we recruited him he turned 33 on the 25th April. So he’s 33 and 34 for the 2 seasons we got him for.

c'mon, he was playing as a young 32yo for a good month before turning 33.

I suspected part of his agreement to come over (and the 2nd year) was to do with coaching. I suspect that could be goal here now he isn't in the 1's anymore. Will be a really good person to learn from for Gibcus, Biggie and Miller. Tarrant along with Grimes are an excellent duo to learn a lot from.
Expensive "off the books" coach in the Goldsack mould if so. Guessing Caddy has agreed to be an unofficial coaching staff member

Could still come in handy if we get injuries again even if not best 22

It's possible he could retire as a player and be re-employed as a coach under the same terms. But to save the soft cap is there anything to stop a club from delisting a player mid-contract and then paying them out as employed "staff members" in membership?

While it may not look like a good move now i think it needed to be made. No one knew that Gibcus would be this good this early on. Also Biggy was still young so not sure how his improvement would go. Miller just didnt fill anyone with confidence. So if we were to have an injury to a few KBs, Tarrant was the petfect plug and play for this year. If we lost Noah and Grimes he could slot in easily. Obviously the club has gone into this year thinking we can have a crack at winning it or else we would have just gone with the young brigade in defence

Yes I tend to agree , with the benefit of hindsight it looks like a recruit we didn’t need , but it was insurance
