Richmond vs Hawks-Game day thread

Hawks are playing 10 players under 21 years of age due to injuries, we're playing 4. They're much, much younger and better. We're also playing 3 players over 30 (who are carrying us tonight), Hawks 0. Future is bleak.

Of course they're better they've had better coaching they come into a team with a strong system, such that they know what their role is and what to do in most situations. Ours don't because our coaching has been poor.

That competitiveness should be the minimum we get every week. The disappointing thing is that we could be in a much better position tonight if we had a bit more quality in the team. McMahon, McGuane, White, Jackson, Polo, et al, simply don't have the skills to execute effectively. They can be as desperate and competitive as they want, but they have to be able to back it up with some substance.

I can also see why the Dawks won't make the 8. They haven't been that impressive. Against decent teams, they'd get slammed.

I agree, but geez how bad could it have been, we're at least not doing the same as the last 2 weeks.

I haven't once said our skills are good.

but i am rapt we're trying if only for a half so far

Watching on delay, Buddy just brushed McMuffin off and kicked another goal. He must just laugh at that pussy trying to tackle. Has there ever been a softer player than McMuffin?

You can't polish a *smile*. Those expecting a change in terribly skilled and dumb players with new coaching are in for a rude shock.

Look I don't want to defend McMahon but Franklin is twice his size its no wonder he can't tackle him, he has at least attempted to.

Thats crap, any player can be improved somewhat through good coaching. You can't tell me we wouldn't have finished higher on the ladder this year if we had Clarkson as coach.

I was surprised to come back and read this thread. It sounds like we're 70points down, not 7.

Our skills are getting worse!

It seems our skills are inversely proportional to our intensity. When one's high, the other is low.

Coaching has a little to do with it. Mostly though, they are just not up to it.
You cannot polish a BORRIE

*smile* *smile*. Did you actually see the attempts? Weak as *smile*. Anyone can tackle a bigger player with the right application and technique. NcMahon is seriously scared.

They might improve from bottom 4 to bottom 8. Too many VFL players running around though. Not enough skill and class. One thing I notice about the Hawks is every single player they recruit is generally a good kick. Gee, how I would kill to have that policy down at Punt Road.

Pettifer scared. :hihi

Imagine how unstoppable Buddy would be if he was 1/2 as accurate as Fev is in front of goal. Very scary thought, but fortunately it is unlikely to ever happen.

sorry,,im watching the tv..delay..but that last 10 seconds of the second quarter was insane..sums us up..under no pressure at all..macmahan and nahas both miss simple shots..absolutley pathetic.......if6 give them a game???

Yeah, 1 Franklin was at full tilt, McMahon had no chance, the other Franklin used his strength and he is naturally a lot stronger than McMahon.

I disagree. Coaches are important, but even the best coaches - L Matthews and Allan Jeans for example, have publicly stated - you have to have the cattle. Not triers and battlers, very good players.

Good players make good coaches

Lids 21 touches, 7 tackles, 5 clearances half way through the 3rd quarter, absolutely elite.

If we lose him we might as well sell the statue of Jack as scrap metal.
