Richmond 2017 AFL Premiers

after 6 consecutive flags last decade, I remember us Victorians complaining that the intestate teams were too dominant, and that they had an unfair home ground advantage due to stadium rationalisation in Victoria.

This was one discussion but I don't think this was the only reason given for the dominance. Brisbane had a lot of financial and player recruiting incentives that maybe gave them an unfair advantage. Similar with Sydney and the enhanced salary cap. West Coast, there were arguments that they were hiding players in their competition and realistically Victorian clubs didn't put the effort those days in uncovering players from the West that they do now. I believe that interstate clubs do have home ground advantages. When you're the only club or one of two playing at that ground, then opposition teams get less experience on playing those grounds and of course a parochial crowd will always give you that extra percent or two. However there are many aspects that make a successful club. It's the combination of all these factors that make you a successful club. To be successful you have to be able to win anywhere and if you can't, to me there's no excuses, you're simply not good enough if that's the case.

Great shot, that would have been blown to bits in '45

Get any comments? People would be surprised at how many Tigers there are around the world.

I think someone did try that once, people would drop pins on where they were. Or maybe that was the Blues forum.

Correct, the cartoon supporters have dropped pins at the bottom of the ladder! (or are they stapled there?)

I thought I might get some. I did have a chat to someone about Aussie Rules footy trying to explain it to a soccer fan. Nothing else though.

How good are Monday mornings!

Puts the past 37 years in perspective. (pre Sept 2017)

It also means I have far less free time as after a win I read, view and listen to everything and after a loss, I ignore everything. I have lost weeks of free time compared to 1981 - 2016!!!!!

Totally agree with you Whacker .... it’s absorbing and I love it.

Even better is that we seem to be in a twilight zone with the bombres - reading their forums is much like the pain we normally feel - sack the board, the coach, the recruiters and the players aren’t playing for the jumper.

Long may we reign.

What a glorious day!

Its still sinking in, even after a dozen re-watchings of the GF, multiple of each final and every win at least once!

As it happened it was one week at a time just hoping to get back into the finals. Once we passed that barrier the fear of another winless series was the main focus. After that it was all a glorious haze of amazement!

Now we are backing it up with the type of footy you expect from the reigning premiers, each week we go to the footy, its as plain as the nose on your face how good a footy side we have become.

I think our footy at this stage of the year is massive step up from this time last year. But our intensity from last years finals has not been matched.

Really looking fwd to when we combine our better football performance with that intensity!

On Darksiders.

The premiership was similar to the end of the dinosaurs

While I concede that the darksiders undoubtably drove the improvement, while the rest of us wallowed in the sea of mediocrity (Baz, 2016),

they pretty much became extinct as a type around 5pm 31/9/17

like an asteroid hitting the earth.

theres a few sterile ones wandering around aimlessly, and theres nothing wrong with that,

but the stability and unity of the RFC is largely reflected in PRE these days.

the shift in equilibrium is quite amazing

I dispute the dichotomy of the dark and the light.

I spent the majority of 2015 lit up like a kebab stand, 2016 was basically vantablack, while 2017 was a foggy Melbourne pre dawn which burnt off into an absolutely blinding noon sun.

I don't think any of us are all Palpatine or Yoda. I think we all fall on a spectrum between Anakin and Luke.

:rofl

yeah I agree entirely CT. everything is on a spectrum.

Ive always been extreme right Brightside. There were vast times I wished I wasnt. Now isnt one of them.

I genuinely dont wish to inflame anyone, or perish, rekindle any ideological warfare.

I may have phrased my enjoyment of the PRE unity and tranquility badly?

all we have to disagree about these days is whether Miles should play or not, and how Kmac should have renovated his bathroom.

and neither really matter

What a difference a flag makes.

Judd says Hogan is the best player in the comp in the moment, Mitchell is Brownlow favourite, Ben Brown is the best forward, so and so is in the mid-year AA ahead of one of our guys and Chicken Nixon attacking the hell out of Rance on Twitter...

This stuff used to get a rise out of Tigers supporters, 'Dusty is better then Hogan', 'Riewoldt is 10x the forward Brown is because of his smarts and 2nd efforts' etc.

In 2018, I don't care, let the minnows argue over these things, we are reigning premiers and a powerhouse.

yep.

No Sheds in AA conversation still *smile* me though. Especially after he's just played one of the greatest games in living memory right in front of their eyes.

Adelaide must be spewing they were so pathetic last year, goes to show you have to take that opportunity when it presents itself.

Injuries have ravaged them this season, Laird now out with a busted hand and B. Crouch gone for the season. They'll be up against it just to make the 8 now.
