Richmond 2017 AFL Premiers

And i have a new piece of favourite Grand Final footage. When Lambert is released by Reiwoldt in the last, Rioli could have easily sat off completely, or gone inboard for a cheapie but he sprints hard the whole way to shepherd and bump the Adelaide player chasing Lambert.

If you watch carefully he actually does it twice. Hits and bumps then does it again when the defender continues the chase. All he was concentrating on was giving Lambert the time and space to make sure the next disposal was as good as it could be.

Yep, bloody loved it

So many moments to love. Pick up more and more with each viewing.

Love how Caddy gives it to Kelly for being slack on the goal line for Reiwolt's snap tha bounced through. Wish I knew what he said.

I loved watching Plastic tough guy Atkins trying to rough up Dusty just before the bounce to start the game, and then watch him have one of the worst GF games you'll ever see. For me he'll never live it down.

All final series our blokes were blocking and bumping. In the prelim when Butler strolls in for the gimme in the last minute or two Shed is still there bumping Lobbe on the goal line. Absolute joy to watch.

Also Townsends hold of Lever's arm when Jack takes the speccie in the first is very noice too!!

Pressure applied to opposition
Pressure reduced to ourselves
That's why our talent outperformed their talent on the day.

Thinking back during the finals series, the thing I enjoyed most was the pressure we applied and the constant yelling of "baaaaaall". Lost my voice in all 3 games.

The below clips are pretty good

Yeah that's what cost me my voice at the two finals I was able to attend. And, when people talk about a team's fans being their 19th man, this is a unique example of our sport where a team really can bring their fans into the game. That Geelong game and the GF (wasn't at the GWS game, so can't comment as much), giving the Tiger army the opportunity to shout "BAALLL" so often, just creates an aura where we are getting right into the opposition, baying for their blood. Seems to make the opposition so much more panicked and flustered - a self fulfilling spiral working in tandem with the pressure the Tiges players were putting on them.

Collingwood at Malthouse's coaching height (around 2009-11) had this kind of high pressure, manic tackling like rabid dogs about them, that really brought the rabid Collingwood ferals into the game. I detest Collingwood, but was always jealous of them during that era, knowing full well a resurgent Richmond, if we ever got our act together, could create the same intimidating atmosphere. And we did........and then some!

Yep collingwood during 09 to 11 had that high intensity pressure game we had this year. Surprised teams went away from this during the past 6 to 7 years and allowed hawthorn win 3 in a row with their pretty precise passing football. Reckon our pressure side of 2017 would have broken them down. If you re watch the hawk flags youll notice minimal pressure applied especially freo and west coast

Interesting point. Because when you think about it GWS are kind of modelled on that highly skilled, precise passing type game that Hawthorn perfected. And certainly have been gifted oodles of talent to carry out that kind of game. Really open teams up when given the opportunity. And Adelaide too, played this way for large parts of the season - Adelaide though, seemed a harder at it, probably slightly less polished version of GWS.

Either way, coming up against a side applying manic pressure, with the ability to scrap goals during tough phases of play brought them unstuck. Are either GWS or Adelaide of the same calibre as Hawthorn at their best? So hard to tell. But RFC of 2017 would have at least really taken it up to Hawthorn of 2013-15 and made them earn it.

yes, bugger all pressure in the Hawks flags. Overawed interstate sides?

doesn't surprise me though on teams 'going away' from the pressure game, main reason being its much easier said than done. Every side every game would like to bring the heat right?. Takes more than just wanting to do it to actually do it.

True. Need the right mix of players to pull it off. And obviously the stars don't always align to have a team or teams in the comp with the right mix of players to do it.

A magpies supporting mate of mine kept saying from about round 13 that we'd win the flag, I kept telling him he didn't know what he was talking about.
Obviously he's smarter than me.

Now I believe him
