If that was a dress rehearsal for round one we're way off the mark butchered the ball and skills poor. The biggest issue from last season hasn't improved going on our last 2 practice games getting killed on transition from the opponents defence to our forward line is a walk in the park to easy unless we rectify that we will continue to get exposed.

Ryan had more disposals in a qtr than Jack all game.

He has to be played as backup ruck/ 3rd tall round 1

He moves better than Tom & Jack & will obviously have stints in the ruck & off the ground so we won’t be to top heavy up forward.
Was very impressed has some confidence about him, serious work needs to go into his kicking , it’s putrid , nevertheless, must play

Know it was only a practice match, but reckon the Blues will be laughing their silly heads off after that effort by the Tigers.
Be honest here guys and dolls.
Melbourne were a class above us and had loose players all over the ground, plus their running, marking, was superb.
Round 1 will tell us if we are contenders this year or just another team.
On that effort I think we have been over rated. Hoping I am wrong here, but that is how I saw the game today.
Don’t think r1 is the determinant either way if your a contender , qualifying for finals is that , didn’t cats lose to crows r1 or was that year before

Puzzles me this Cotchin thing up forward since when was he forward he shouldn't being taking Cumberland spot either of the bench in the guts or nothing.

Kidding ourselves if we think todays result was purely down to it being a practice match. Signs were there last week with Norf transitioning with ease most game.

Starting to think Taranto and Hopper have come across one year too late. Reckon if we had them last year we were a genuine chance. This year i think the wheels are falling off in a major way.

Cannot have Cotchin and Noah in the same forward line. Ditto Jack and Lynch.
Ruckwork at stoppages seems worse than last year if that is even possible. Saw Nank today on a few occasions have a clear hit to our midfielders only to get his hand to the ball first and at best hit it to a contest. Should have been straight to our midfield and we would be away.
Backline looks disjointed. Tarrant may help with the bigger forwards but seems we are always led to the ball.
With Taranto and Hopper coming and Ryan and Miller showing promising signs it was the perfect opportunity to move Cotch and Jack on.

Really disappointed with the omission of Miller today. He gave us fantastic presence as the 2nd ruckman and around the ground last year. Why you would want to have 2 lumbering slow ruckman is beyond me.

Our midfield still seems to lack real quality and speed. Tarranto and Hopper will be great in getting hands on ball but none offer any genuine pace. The fact an injury prone Prestia is still crucial to our midfield is a real worry.

Unless the fwd line is changed up we are in serious trouble if the kicks coming in dont hit the target. It will lead to being the no 1 team to concede from rebound 50.

Yes it is very early and we may flick a switch come Round 1 but reality is we are a very good chance of being 0-4 with our fixture and then it will be another year of catch up.

We really needed to recruit speed and dash and just not sure we have done that.
It happens all the time.
Kelly goes to WC they go backwards.
Franklin goes to Sydney they lose 2 GFs with him.
Getting new players is beautiful like in 17 With Prestia Nakas and Caddy but they were added on top of brand new in there prime Cotchin Grimes Martin BigV etc it worked. But this year we have added to great players but we haven't got a group of that same level coming through at the same time.
It dosent help when your 1st rounders have been disasters since 17.

As I said in an earlier post you have pointed out that Tarrant’s game is based purely on the spoil. That’s about all you have right when it comes to this player. Against Gawn and Grundy! Three each today. Curnow and McKay to come.

34 years… with little in the way of speed or much else left in his skill set, and that was last year.

If it comes to a choice the younger player with some chance of success still looks a better bet.

Badly beaten in the midfield.
Hard for any tall defender.
And Balta also disappointing today.

Looks to me like Ryan may come in to play the role intended for Miller and Miller will be asked to go back.

Clearly just taking parts of what I say. We get that you don't like Tarrant, yes his main focus is to spoil the best forward, but he can mark. Remember you were the one that brought up stats showing his lack of marking last year, I'm sure you remember that Tarrant broke his thumb last season but the professional that he is, he continued on and defending very very well. Obviously went to a purely defensive focus from then.

The thing Tarrant give us, is he takes the oppositions best forward, we don't really want Balta doing that role, we want him on the 2nd forward where he can also sag off and intercept. To even contemplate that Young is ready to take the oppositions best forward is not only ludicrous, but you'd almost think about sending the men in the white coats around.

He may get there, but there is zero chance that Young would be preferred over Tarrant right now, it would mean a drastic shift in our defensive matchups.

Sounds to me as if you are coming to this conclusion too, and moving towards Miller back, which is likely. Ie. Tarrant would be 1st cab, then Miller, then Yound would come into the discussion.

If Tarrant is fit he plays Rd 1 end of discussion. Unless we are in a transition year then you get games into Young.

The stand rule is here to stay every team has got use to it we are way to easy to open up. We lacked cohesion a bit to between the midfield and forward line.

i see our squad in a bit of a no mans land tbh. We have some experienced quality players on their last legs and some youngsters with potential who may or may not make it. Not a great list profile in reality.

I hope you get some serious egg on your face with this one. I'd hazard a guess that I could go back to early to mid 2017 and I'd find a very similar post from you.

You and a few others, certainly seem to jump off the ship very quickly. Microwaved your membership yet?

Frustrating game but here is my take.
  1. Demons further advanced at this time. They have been doing match sims much earlier than us.
  2. They were gifted at least 5 goals from ordinary free kicks
  3. Apparently HTB and push in the back are not a thing.
  4. We left a few easy goals out there from missed shot - Samson should have had 4
  5. Tylar Young was playing his first top level game. I thought he stuck at it well. He will get better.
  6. Lynch will be cherry ripe for round 1
  7. Prestia didn’t play most of the game - hopefully be fine for round 1.
We worked into it slowly. Demons were majorly pumped for this game but we weren’t. We will be much better for the run. No major negative conclusions to draw from this.
Always these two.

Let's cut to the chase.
Today we saw 5 yrs of a team with no quality kids coming through.
It was ok when we won 3 flags, we didn't care Higgins walked out then Coleman Jones walks away and then then the cherry on the cake we give Geelong Holmes.
While we wait for Brown.

Lol. I hope i do too but list profile in 2017 was completely different. All players were in the same age profile. This year not so much. Happy to be proven wrong and we win the next 3

Have we found one? Two great marks against Kangas too
