Rich V Carl - Match Day Thread

For me, I would add in Tarrant is not the answer for an Astbury replacement. No doubt he knows the game but looks a little lost in a Tigers backline. Blood the kids and see what ambition will give

Seriously?? He was on McKay the current coleman medallist for the whole game and kept him to 1 goal. Tarrant was fine. His role was to negate the McKay influence and he did it well.

Thought Tarrant worked his way into the game but was very poor with his decision-making and disposal early on. Needs to do better than 5 turnovers coming out from FB. Definitely won the McKay battle considering how often the ball came in.

Same as Gibcus, did well on Curnow. Grimes was solid and even though Broady was quiet he still did his role.

Most of their goals came as a result of our insipid midfield, and from Ill disciplined free kicks/poor umpiring.

That's what has deflated me the most. We looked exactly like 2021, very little evolution.

They sky is not falling. We easily won two quarters and lost two. We were ill disciplined and gave away 8 fifty metres which directly resulted in 4 goals which was the margin. We lost our best clearance and transition player early and our most experienced forward played with a broken thumb.
The Blues had a new coach debut with the associated incentive that gave the players.
All in all I’m not devastated. The discipline issue is eminently fixable and we are slightly underprepared compared with most teams which is a deliberate ploy. We will be thereabouts.

Yep this right here. Besides keeping his man (last years Coleman winner) to one goal what else do we want from him?
The backline did all it could. For most of the game they were set up pretty well. Including immediately before most of their goals. But honestly there is *smile* all the backline can do when the midfield gives away 9 50’s. They can be in perfect formation but means nothing when a 50 paid in the circle takes them to 30m out straight in front. Cost us the game and I ain’t blaming the umpires.
Arrogant, undisciplined, poorly skilled, slow and underdone is a dreadful combination. We were all that and more

Always disappointed to lose, especially to Carlscum.
we had issues with contested possession last season and appear to have not solved the problem. Not getting Luke Dunstan was a mistake. Dees got him on the base wage so salary cap space should not have been an issue.
Need to try Ross, RCD, Parker and Pickett in the guts. Put Cotchin and Hugo on the wings. Need to be different

I can't say I cared much when they booed, but you make a good point. When Ablett Jr got booed after elbowing a couple of opponents and not getting rubbed out the media was all over it. But it appears to be fine to boo Dustin Martin.

DS
What goes around comes around. Fortunately we have another game against Carlton in June. Dusty won’t forget & neither will we.

And thats why you stay home, buy a Slab, be pissed as a Mute by halftime, doze off halfway through the 3rd Q and save yourself the embarrassment that was, as it turned out. Now, if it had gone our way then you just clear the eye's and watch the replay after the Live Game and NOT hit what's left of the slab as hard, easy peasy and I'm a Teetotaller !
I think you've missed my point.

Some people like to go to the football as it is better than watching on TV.

Some people like to have a beer at the football ground, because they think it is better than watching the football.

Some people like to watch the football and have a beer, or food, or lemonade, whilst watching the game.

Some people prefer to watch the football rather than standing in queues.

Ummmm nah, I got your points just fine mate.

All I was doing was offering up an alternative to what seemed like a miserable day at the Footy for you.

Seriously, people go to the ground just to have a beer because its better than watching the footy ? So again, why not just stay at home and have a beer if that's the case ? Im totally damn confused now.

Anyway, I hope your MCG Gameday experience improves, but I wouldn't hold my breath over it, the last thing Dill and AFL Exec give a Flyin' Toss about is grassroot fans in the Outer like yourself, once they have your admission cost.

In mitigation I watched the game on TV so I re-watched the game today and admittedly a couple of mistakes made by Gibcus I had put on Tarrant but overall for all his experience and on field presence I thought he was not up to par for a KPD in this game. Too many errors for me. I know he will improve once into the Richmond game plan but for now I thought his performance could have been so much better. It wouldn't have helped us win of he was on top of his game as we were second rate in too many areas but I want to see a solid defence and collectively this wasn't it.
I am sticking to my observations but accept others viewpoint will differ from mine

Our defence held up well bearing in mind how poor our midfield were.

Where do you get this info from Mr P?

Genuinely interested.

Negative before game, but positive after game is not passing my pub test
My son was negative on a test and then positive on another test he took later that same day. Of course it can happen like that.

I'm sure that a Rapid Antigen test can happen like that (and I hope your son is doing ok)

I thought the AFL protocols involved PCR testing before games/training? Maybe they don't anymore.

Anyways, I hoped that the AFL media would look further into this, and why Voss was making jokes about his scratchy voice and sore throat in the rooms directly after the match? Tell us when they tested negative. Tell us when they tested positive. Nope, crickets.

If we are relying on clubs to self report positive covid cases, then this scenario will happen again.

Potentially some of our players could miss this week with covid if exposed to positive Carlton players. Not ideal.

Reckon ya nailed it tbar. Thinkin there's a fair bit of work to be done before we become a genuine threat again.

In the last qtr when we were 20 points up, 5 of Carltons 7 goals came from two 50-meter penalties (both coming from Graham) and then Ross two turnovers in the back half which went straight to Carlton players and they goaled, and Gibcus clumsy high contact to a blues player who also goaled.

Must fix up the undisciplined acts and use players with good foot skills coming out of the back half.

Yep it felt worse than it was given some of these things should be easily fixable. With that said the clearance issue feels a low chance of being fixed properly we need Prestia back and a kid to become above average at least on the inside.

On a positive note, we're only one game out of the eight, with some winnable games to come before the end of the season. Finals still a mathematical possibility.

He's fine. FUlly vaxxed and scarcely a sniffle. But we are all locked down for 7 days. No one else in house has caught it. Thankfully. But they need to look at changing the rules, my daughter has missed a week of school and been perfectly fine. I'm lucky that I can work from home (I can go to work as an essential worker but haven't chosen to.
