He'll be better than that... Robert Harveyesque!!!

quite possibly. i was stating at the lower end of the scale as a minimum what he may become. if he becomes a star then awesome.

That's ridiculous. Your either eligible or your not surely.

Nothing Matthews said indicated Shuey was ineligible.

It's seems natural to me. You have 2 players who have had good seasons and not too much seperating them. One is in his first year, one in his 3rd. Most would give the votes to the first year player in a Rising Star competition.

What i was saying was it shouldn't matter what year you are in or how old you are. Shuey got a nomination as did Heppell. I was just responding to what Matthews supposively indicated. I didnt hear it personally.

Agree with this. We already have a lot of star match-winning players. A quite achiever who can rack up 25-30 possies on a weekly basis un-noticed will be valuable.

Yep wouldn't want too many star match-winning players in your side. to get in each other's way.

Your response was to a post that just said Matthews took into account the numbers of years in the system when deciding between Shuey and Heppel, nothing to do with being eligible or not.

When i said eligible i meant he was nominated to win it and there should be no little asterisk saying he is older and been in the system longer and should be judged accordingly. He should be judged for what he did without age being a factor.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

What asterick ? The judges vote on whatever criteria they want. Before you put a rule saying years in system shouldn't be factored in, WA jusges should be told WA based players shouldn't be favoured for being WA based.

Would say that's pretty obvious as well that they shouldn't favour someone based on home state. But if judges are going to mark someone down for being older then why do they even get nominated. Personally, doesn't bother me Heppell won he's a very good player but to mark Shuey harder because he is older is IMO wrong. Realistically it should just be for the best first year player. End of story.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Agree about first year player only.

Wasn't is KB who when voting in the RS star the year Lids won it, he was th only judge to give the 2nd favorite, forget who now, just 1 pt to ensure a win for Lids.

Its why the RS doesn't count for much as far as I'm concerned, especially after the Martin farce last year.

It's going to be nervous times ahead given our pretty clean recruitment record of late.

At the moment we are looking like we've punted on Conca a bit.
I'm guessing that Conca's been preferred on the criteria of a player that would be a suitable type for a low scoring grand final winning team.

If Heppell wins a couple of Brownlows but we win a couple of flags with Reece in the team then I think we'll have made the right move.
Cannot agree with that at all. I thought Conca was sensational for a first year player up until he ran out of steam. Happens with young players, and with another couple of pre-seasons, he will be a very very good foot soldier in our midfield, which is exactly what we need right now.

Heppell, yeah , he has been very good but to me, he is a flashy HBF. Will be good, but Reece Conca is what we need in our midfield next year and beyond. Has composure, vision and the skills to become an A Grade midfielder IMO.

Agree with that. Its too open to bias.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

after the first year heppel had the better year and looks like he'll be the better player. no big deal. conca's no JON. after the second year conca might look the better player. it can quickly swing.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Watch the 3rd qtr v pies this yr , was released to the midfield & looked good v the best

Of nine judges, two gave Griffen maximum votes (5), six gave him 4, and KB none!

hehe, even better. It was that day that I realised despite his self-imposed exile, KB still had yellow and black blood running through his veins.

What did Lids win by?

Plenty. KB could have give Griffen 4 votes and Lids still would have won. But he didn't know it at the time so he did what he had to do to ensure a Tigers victory.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Conca is the least of our problems. Knighter like in his decision making and execution except stronger and faster. Going to be a long term player.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

I also like his work. He has time with the ball in his hands and goes in really hard. I think we should play him forward a bit next year so he can learn how to kick a few goals.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

It would appear that I may be the only one who doesn't see blue sky with Conca. His kicking has been ordinary. He ducks into tackles trying to win a cheap free. He panics and just releases the ball to anyone. He isn't quick and gets caught too often. Wish we had've picked Heppell who just oozes class.
