it what the haters are saying, but look at the replay and you will see Conca was not lined up on Gresham for a single goal.

Perhaps that was the problem

Reece is getting 8 contested possessions a game. He is a bigger body so maybe he’s creating a bit of space as well, his contested ball numbers aren’t big for an inside mid.

Understand the reasons miles does not get a game. It’s a pity as he’s a terrific footballer.

The 'contested possessions' stat they count is actually 'disposals from contested possession'. There are countless packs in every game in which no one is credited with a disposal, but plenty of possession is being contested. It's not glamorous, but valuable to force a stoppage when you're outnumbered.

Struggles to be smart with the ball, got towelled by Gresham for extended periods but still has defenders.

Sure it wasn't Short getting toweled by Gresham?

Amazed that someone who has banged on about midfield depth for years doesn't see the value in Conca. He's flawed, sure. Who else we got?

I think this is a little over-played. There is no doubt Miles spread is not the best but when you're being asked to play purely inside mid and extract then this area is going to suffer. A couple of VFL games ago Miles was given instruction to spread more and found himself receiving a lot of ball in the forward half. He's been working on it and I personally can't see the negative in playing him ahead of a couple of others getting games. We were smashed in the midfield to half way through the third quarter. Last year against the Suns he had 23 disposals, 13 contested, 8 tackles, 8 clearances, an 82% disposal efficiency rating in only 75% game time. Played 66% the next game and then was dropped. I am however resigned that Miles won't get a game unless say both Cotchin or Martin are out.

No one is asked to play purely inside mid. More to the point, no one is allowed to, in our side. Because the ball is outside way more than it is in, even in today's congested game. Miles can use his smarts to find space to get a kick, but he cannot keep up when the baddies have the ball.

It's not a question of disagreeing Snakey. It's a question of you misrepresenting my criticism of Conca. I know what he brings but he is blessed in the fact that those qualities get him a game ahead of better offensive players. Good luck to him.

No head sticking, I'm aware of his deficiencies, but I'm also aware of his strengths and place a premium on them. And the term fanboi is obnoxious Internet trollism. I'm a fan of Conca, everybody knows it. Back in 16 his confidence was shot and I thought he was gone and said so.

Conca had him for large portions of the last half. And midfield depth? Not sure Conca is spending that much time there. Would like to see that split. For his current role play Markov.

Did he? I watched the replay this arvo - Short was on Gresham for his first two goals, Ellis his third, Broad his fourth, Lambert his fifth and McIntosh his sixth.

Conca is playing plenty of midfield time, has all season. It's good that one of our depth mids can help shoulder the load while Prestia is out and Martin is merely brilliant instead of superhuman. Part of the reason we're 8-2.
