Reece Conca - so long and thanks for all the fish

Re: Reece "Skills" Conca

Unlike many of the maligned brigade, one thing Conca has never been is soft in the contest. The vitriol and scorn directed at him is as misplaced as what Bachar Houli has copped for years. Conca might not prove to be runner up in a Norm
Smith medal in a premiership team, but he is a walk up start in the title defence should his body remain sound.

Interesting Dan Jackson gets brought up in this thread. I already wondered if the same people that were in the Dan Jackson camp are also in the Conca camp. The have similar strengths and shortcomings.

Only another Conca injury stands in the way of the punters in those camps being on the right side of history, Marty. ;D

Except for the 13 times they picked him in the VFL...

is that 13 times over his career?
checking stats he played the last 6 games in the vfl last year.
the year before he played 5. all after injuries.

again, our match committee, both the premiership winning match committee in 2017, and the ones before pick Reece Conca when he is fit, and im pretty sure it is not just he gives good cuddles.

Re: Reece "Skills" Conca

never been much of a fan of conca, think he butchers the ball way too much...however.

if he can make it as an inside mid, it'd be a huge result for the team.

think its one of the reasons cotch has looked deadly last couple of weeks...he's getting a bit more outside ball

I agree, other than those times when he is fit and he is picked in the VFL.

If Graham continues his growth as a player it may come down to a battle between Conca and Lambert for a spot at some stage.

Re: Reece "Skills" Conca

In for a huge year. Fit and now a mature body. Will be making headlines for contributing to a dominant tigers season.

The best I can remember him playing was against the Saints one night. From memory that was 2013, his best season to date. He got injured early in the EF against Carlton that year, and he failed to stand up against lolnorf in the 2015 EF after being rushed back from jnjury.

I was at that game. I remember coming away that night thinking he would be an absolute star. He killed it.

Re: Reece "Skills" Conca

My nervousness about Conca is that I suspect this time last year the same stuff was being said about him because he started 2017 in really good form and then got injured.

That's been the story of his career and it would be great for him and the team imo if he could get a run at a whole season. Fingers crossed for Reece, he deserves a break.

Conca, when fit, played 5 vfl games in ‘17, 6 in ‘16 and 5 in ‘15.

Agree with this. His kicking is suspect, but hardness and inside work make him a starter.

Conca, when returning from injury played 5 games in the VFL in '17, 6 in '16 and 5 in '5.
he hasnt been dropped since at least 2011.

Which is completely different from what you originally said but carry on.

Agree, all the good players get at least 5 or 6 reserves games to get right.

"again, our match committee, both the premiership winning match committee in 2017, and the ones before pick Reece Conca when he is fit, and im pretty sure it is not just he gives good cuddles."

So they got it wrong by not selecting Reece the last 5 games of 2017? IIRC we did win the flag so that didn't get it too wrong.

Hopefully he gets a good run with his body so at least gets an opportunity to show his stuff.

Re: Reece "Skills" Conca

Given 2 games in 4 days next week, will be interesting to see who if anyone is managed. Would not surprise me if Conca is managed given his long injury record

2 in 6 actually. Collingwood have 2 in 5. Pretty tough.

Re: Reece "Skills" Conca

If he does get a good run at it and maintains his form, which then allows Martin to spend way more time up forward, it is a huge bonus. Dusty may have a Coleman to add to his collection at the end of the year if this can happen. ;D

Re: Reece "Skills" Conca

im expecting Melbourne to come out pretty hard ...... early anyway , and I think Reece will come in handy in the middle , despite his weaknesses , he doesnt shy away from the tough stuff

Re: Reece "Skills" Conca

Dusty is great up forward but personally I think he does far more damage playing mostly midfield. Playing forward you are prone to far more inconsistent performances. Was really under-utilised in Round 3 for example. And he draws players to him meaning it's easy for others to be free. Killed Brisbane but don't forget they had a very inexperienced back line.

I am a a wee bit concerned with Dusty , played mostly forward last week , and in the other games didnt see the same running power of last year ,

Nothing but paranoia ,its early days , but hoping there is nothing wrong with him
