Agree with 90% of your posts Scooper (bit off on the PL thread ;D) but can't agree wit this. He ain't no vanilla. He got a lot of chocolate fudge, nuts and a cherry on top.

You're in luck oldie cause I reckon there will be a lot to go round for a some time to come. Just go to the RFC bar and say "make mine a conca cream."

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

I don't think he was that great last night. At times he played like an over zealous kid in the under 11's. The number of times he called for the ball to be kicked to him when he had an opponent right with him and was clearly not an option to kick it to drove me nuts. He'll be a gun, but he just needs to settle down a bit.

My thoughts exactly....Must have been watching a different game.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

He was good last night. Gave us plenty of drive & will only get better. Hope he gets the goal monkey off his back soon.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

I have no idea what is with everyone's obsession about a player getting a rising star nomination ?...........whats he win a fridge or new washing machine out of the deal ?

Who cares, the kid is showing in his first year of AFL football that he actually is capable of and impacting a game, that in itself is enough to get me excited, that maybe finally (along with Batchelor and Helbig also) that the recruiting staff have finally got their sh!t together and are finding players who can slot in now, rather than 4/6 years down the line, like has been the MO for the past 25 years.

Keep up the good work all 3 rooks, (and I would throw Grimes in that lot also...sensational last night), Im excited what the future holds for the first time in 29 years.

Nah I was there and watching him pretty closely because it was bugging me. Not saying he didn't play well, just not as well as others think, yourself included. There was a "kick it to me, kick it to me" element to his game I hadn't noticed before but hey, he's living the dream.

Agreed. I'm just interested in them wearing a premiership medallian.

I read that he has been paid the most around the neck or above the shoulder free kicks in the competition this year. This indicates that he either ducks his head too much or is not afraid to put his neck on the line(or both)

I love that we have a player that the umps seem to treat like a bilby. He just seems to win frees that no other Richmond player gets if they do the same thing. He also should have given away at least two frees last night tackling Esserdum players without the ball. It was like watching Judd. Is he related to Jeff Gieschen?

Anyway, good player, goes in hard, good kick.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Heppell has it in the bag. The media drive these awards. Just happy that Conca is progressing nicely.

lol. would you rather him stand in one spot with hands on hips? the reason he's always calling for the ball is because he's aways running hard to create an option. If you watched him closely you would have noticed how he's always running hard without the ball to create an option. If he is ignored he's on his bike making another one, and another one. when he has the ball and gets rid of it, he's again running hard to create another option. It's all about running hard to create a loose man and becoming the next link in the chain. he has the perfect mindset to play todays football. Conca has been starting games better than he has been finishing them which is due to the fact that he runs himself to the ground - alot of the times his efforts go unrewarded. once he gets a few pre-seasons under his belt and is able to run out games then 30+ possession games will be the norm for him, which will be very impressive because he rarely wastes a possession.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Had a close look at both Conca and Heppell deep in the clinches and I can say that at this point, Conca seems much more adept at playing the midfielders role. Heppell's time in the middle seemed to be marked by rushed disposal where as Conca just gives the impression of having oodles of time. It's early days but Heppell may not be suited to a true midfielder's role in which case, we got the recruiting decisions spot on yet again.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Conca has been good all year.

And it's his first year.

What about Grigg and Houli.

We have won both those handsomely I reckon.
Helbig showing signs he will have a belter soon.

Post made a few clangers but I quite liked him and he is the future.

Someone suggested to me maybe we could groom him as a tall backman.

Still got Griffiths to come.

I'M EXCITED.

Re: Reece "Squirrel" Conca

Needs to clean up his kicking abit.Still very much an up & under kick rather than a penatrating kick.Good game again.

agree. his short kick is very precise, but when he tries to kick long he tends to float them.

Yeah fair enough. I don't mean vanilla as a knock. He just gets the ball, has time with it and picks the best option to get it too. I am a huge wrap for him and think he is a going to be a 200 game footballer. But I think Jimmy Bartel and Dane Swan are vanilla footballers. Just get, give it, move on.
