Reece Conca - so long and thanks for all the fish

Re: Reece "Love is in the air" Conca

When the ball was in a dangerous spot near their goals, with a pack of players fighting for it, Conca emerged with the pill more often than anyone else.

He is one of our best players at either getting out of heavy traffic or knowing exactly how much time he has to pick the right option to get out of it, where most mid to bottom tier role players would just bang it on the boot.

Maybe he should be a traffic cop then. How he gets out of traffic is not important, what he does with the ball in hand to get it to its next advantageous destination is. If you want to look at someone who sums up a situation go no further than Reiwoldt. Simple deft taps or getting in the way of an oppsition player to the advantage of a team mate or kicking a ball to the advantage of a player in a one on one. Take the last quarter on the boundary when Conca was running just ahead of an opposition player. Needed to get in between the other player and the ball and instead was deftly pushed off balance resulting in a goal. It's those sort of frustrating situations in which a player in their 7th year of AFL footy should know better. He makes these elementary mistakes all the time. He had a pretty good game overall I am not arguing that but he will always be limited by his decision making.

Decent game followed by a good game & great to see. Actually providing a bit of zip down back

Re: Reece "Love is in the air" Conca

Has the agility of a freight train, but he did some nice pack busting against Collingwood which was good to see.

Has a nice long kick on him, needs to use it more.

yeah I'll second that. players finding space and time is a great thing.
Chestnut has been doing it a bit the first 2 games.

Re: Reece "Love is in the air" Conca

Some bizarre comments regarding Reece ability.

One thing he doesn't lack is agility or the ability to work through traffic.

Two games in and he has played well.

Spot on. Limited player. Does nothing exceptionally well. Kicking is atrocious and decision making not far behind. So he gets out of traffic on ocassion. Doesn't make him a good player. His last few games have been better in regards to Conca's standards but not in regards to AFL standards.

Re: Reece "Love is in the air" Conca

Frawlwy dud your a typical Naysayer ..
Conca has been quite good the past few games due to a FULL pre season .
How about sticking your garbage where the sun dont shine along with all the other pathetic Naysayers..

Sure but doesn't make a good footy player. Usain Bolt could probably get out of tight traffic on a footy field but does that mean he's a good player? No, a good player's hallmark is what he does with the ball, his decision making skills. I watched the game again (3rd time now) and he played an ok game but I counted at least half a dozen times or more where he was just hopeless in the basic situation that presented itself. A very frustrating player to watch for me.

gotta go into bat for Chestnut here. hardly been able to enter a season without interruption. in these 2 games he has done some good things and some average things - like most of the team. but the good has looked good. give him a chance - unless you'd like Morris in his place?

Certainly deserves his chance to prove himself. Has put together two reasonable games and hopefully he can improve and cement his position. Otherwise imo it's there for the taking as we have some promising youngsters in the wings.
