PRE Phantom Draft 2013

Extremely sorry guys , Just had a Doctors appointment today for mum who is a stroke victim and couldnt get to a pc (I thought you all might me having Kittens)

At #14 I had 2 players in mind and my 1st preference was Freeman but thats ok he has gone to a very good home and saves me the trouble of Racking my brain about who to take :hihi

#14 Blake Acres , Blake Acres and Nathan Freeman were my 2 players i was tossing up between and was torn between the 2 knowing that Marcus Bontempelli wouldnt last until #14.

Last Year i really liked Plowman for GWS and actually posted on another forum that i believed the GWS should/Would take him insted of Grundy and it did eventuate that way. This year i have the same feeling thoughts about Acres and is really well suited to the GWS

#14- GWS BLAKE ACRES 189cm 85kg Midfield / Foward
Blake is a very talented midfielder that can also drift foward or back depending on team needs and extremely versatile player that is exceptional by hand or either foot and is a really classy utility that would really benifit the GWS team. I believe that he would have been a top 10 selection easily if it wasnt for his injuries
Jake could end up becoming a similar player to Nat Fyfe for the Greater western Sydney team.

Again sorry for the wait guy

I know he likes Garlett so there's a chance he'd take him.
Thanks Tigs - I do like Dayle Garlett but for the tigers , Dont like him for the GWS due to their players age group
Really hope we get him with #50 for the tigers

We at Fremantle have witnessed the sudden demise of St Kilda and the rise of Richmond. Richmond at the end of 2009 took two KPP at their second and third picks. With this in mind Fremantle would like to welcome

Jonathon Marsh.
Height: 191cm
Weight: 89kg
Team/Club: WA/East Fremantle
Position: Forward Flanker/Utility

Some may view this as a reach but Freo have had their eyes on him for a while. We see him in a Darling mold and believe he will compliment Pav, Bradely and Gumby instantly in the forward 50. There will be a view to develop him into a tall midfielder who also rests forward in the future, not unlike the way Matthew Pavlich has played over his career.

You got it.

Dockers rate him very highly.

I would say if he was 3-4 cms taller a lot more clubs would like him. Stevie j esque by the sounds of him.

18. St Kilda
MATT CROUCH
Height: 181cm
Weight: 80kg

Possibly the best inside mid in the draft, Crouch will help rebuild the Saints midfield. There has been debate one esteemed football websites (or at least one) about Crouch's worth but the Saints are wrapped to have him. He can win clearances, use the ball well especially by hand and he can also get involved on the outside.

19. St Kilda
BILLY HARTUNG
Height: 176cm
Weight: 71kg

Billy can run, and run, and run. He can run quick and he can run far and he uses this ability to get the ball and then carry it. He uses the ball well by foot and loves to kick goals. In addition he is a very good tackler and has shown he can play a negating role.

With Pick 20 Gold Coast Select Trent Dumont
Club: Norwood
D.O.B.: 30.6.1995
Height: 186cm
Weight: 83kg

If the Saints walk away with these two plus Kelly, they have brained them. Good work Brodders.

Thanks. Time will tell if they prove to be good picks, but the Saints certainly need mids of all types and ,IMO (as worthless a it is), those 3 were the best at each pick. They are also different which helps.

So very nearly picked him at 13. Feeding Murphy & Gibbs after Juddy goes.

Definitely a nice cross-section, a bit of everything in that mix, add Longer and you have the makings of a very nice rebuild.

Pick 22 Brisbane Lions

Darcy Gardiner

192cm 82kg

Lions over the moon and maybe a little surprised Darcy is still available
Kid has all the tools to be a very very good defender for a very long time

Will take a few preseaons until he can tackle the big boys but for now he could play a Dylan Grimes type role.
Expect Leppa to mentor this kid into a star

Mitch Harvey (SA – KPF) North Adelaide 196 cm 97 kg

At 197cm and 92kg, Harvey could be selected to slot straight in at AFL level as a forward rotating through the ruck. A strong contested mark, the North Adelaide product displayed fantastic athleticism in the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships, where he also showcased his improving ruckwork. Harvey is the nephew of former Adelaide recruiting manager, now Collingwood recruiting assistant, Matt Rendell.

Pick 24 - Michael Apeness

Height: 199cm, Weight: 101kg, DOB: 28/01/1995
Recruited from: Eastern Ranges

With Buddy gone and Hale getting another year older, its an ideal time to get another key forward / ruckmen into the system to compliment Roughead and McEvoy. Initially Apeness will apply his trade at Box Hill but at 101kg there is no reason why he couldnt mix it with the big boys of the AFL.

He is a strong bodied ruckman with some excellent ability to go up forward as a big marking target when given the opportunity. I see him in a similar mould to Tippett. He is a physical type player (thanks to his rugby background) with a real presence to him at his size. Up forward is where he is most dangerous. He has a big body and loves the contested 1 v 1 and will prove a handful for any defender matching up on him.
