If we can get him into the TPP and if we think we can coach him we pay pick #7 in a heartbeat. And that is market overs.
As unusual it is for me to disagree with most anything you say, I could not disagree any more strongly than giving up 7 for Mitchell.

The successful days of giving up first possession in the clearance to force turnover and then attack - are pretty much gonski. The game has swung back to first possession importance. Two of the best players in the league in 2021 were Oliver and Wines. Both not overly quick and average by foot but elite in the contest.

The dees have a power midfield but that’s only possible with Oliver and Viney and co getting first hands on the pill and getting it going.

We have plenty of players who can hurt you on the spread with their power and running - Martin, Bolton, Edwards, Lambert etc we just struggle to win the pill at the coal face.

For all his faults - Mitchell is just about the best in the comp in this area.
Good clubs don't let champions (in all sense of the word) go, IMO Hawthorn is a good club.

Like Franklin? Hodge? Lewis? … Franklin they could never compete with that contract. But the other two were seen as expendable at their stage of their careers… hawks weren’t winning any more flags with them in the side. Same for a player like Mitchell IMO.

Like Franklin? Ablett?
Fair point but these were godfather deals. TM is still under contract and will not be offered anything of the sort.

Hodge ( who was brought out of retirement if not mistaken) and Lewis were at the end of their careers and were able to provide strong leadership both on & off-field. Not sure that is an area of strength for TM.

I'm a no as well.

To me he is the Hawks version of Lachie Neale.

They both have Brownlows.
They both accumulate heaps of possessions.
They both look really good.

They both DON'T hurt you.

Give me a Dusty type, anyday.

The salary is the big issue with Mitchell. He's got a lot to learn and has to be paid accordingly, given that he's 28.

Liability as he might be with his running patterns, his formation work and his ball use, he has a Brownlow Medal. And being deluded about what to do on a football ground he will be at least that much so about his value.

Sam Mitchell will have already told him all this and does look to be punting him. So, at a third club, it's possible Sam Mitchell gets the message.

Mitchell, for all his failures, did some very good things on a football ground in 2021. Things no current Richmond player can do. Tom Mitchell is not mediocre. He is terrible or he is elite. The terrible stuff looks like poor values.

If we can get him into the TPP and if we think we can coach him we pay pick #7 in a heartbeat. And that is market overs.

We are alive as preemiership contenders for two more years if Bones Martin can get on the shakes. Maybe three. We don't win them by adding mediocres.

Don't forget that we had to retrain all the blokes we got from elsewhere, particularly Prestia and Lynch. (Not that either was as loose as TM.)

If we think TM's weaknesses are chronic we don't play. But you've got to fancy yourself as a club, eh?
No. If we are even considering our first draft pick Taranto a far better bet. But still no.

who was the host of The Price Is Right ? Tom Mitchell ?

The RFC surely wont part with #7 for Mitchell but they would be more likely to part with a 3rd rounder for Mitch Wallis.

I aint in favor of either scenario to be honest.

I say absolutely and the price being right would be pretty high.

If we are arguing CCJ is worth 20 then Mitchell is worth at least our 7 and some change.
If CCJ only worth 40 then Mitchell is worth about 30 would take at that if salary cap permits Not sure the Hawks would though

Spot on. Just not sure Mitchell is the right solution.

No thanks especially not for pick 7
They will pick a Smurf any way and he will be gone in 2 years.
Whats the difference.
99% of the kids haven't played in 2 years.
Its time to unleash Omeara or Mitchell will keep our window open.
Collier Dawkins can't run out games.
Dow is more an outside mid.
Who else have we got??

Apart from the usual crew there’s Will Martyn and Jack Ross
we are not Geelong
Mitchell doesn’t hurt teams with his 40 possessions
omeara is too slow
IMHO need to go to draft with our first pick draft the best inside mid available

We need Tom for the fact that he gets the pill and distributes to someone else to hurt with it.

But Melbourne don't have this type of player so I feel we would be going backwards.
