Players from other clubs out of contact? Will we shop?

I dont want us to shop for anyone. Unless that player is Judd like then we have to use ALL our picks on kids, not recycled players.

We have to learn from our past mistakes.

Any trade done with ANY of our players to other clubs should be done to gain us PICKS not players.

salopak will be in melbourne next year but what do you give to get him, round 3 selection or snag him in the psd. very good kick. he doesnt like playing at port. high quality mid fielder.

Don't think a third-rounder would cut it since Port paid pick #6, but I don't know that he's worth heaps more. He's no matchwinner, just a decent HB or winger. If anything his form tends to reflect how the team is playing; claw might refer to him as a "sheep". Perhaps something's holding him back at Port - at 24 he should be a regular in that side, not on the fringes.

Pears & Hurley - home grown is best. keep your draft picks and develop your own. The Tigers have a history of giving up picks and players for trades - where has it got you?

Tigers

Well said.

We have seen it first hand with Post and Vickery.

Develop our own, no need to trade for anyone.

I wouldn't. He's overrated IMO and the Dogs would demand a 1st and 2nd round pick. Not worth it, develop youth.

He's not over-rated but yes he would demand a high pick. Unless of course he went to the PSD which might give some trading leverage. But highly unlikely.

I'm going to say no. Players are usually let go for one reason: they're crap. It is true there are sides that are closer to a Premiership such as St Kilda who will take on top up players and have success, but as the Tigers are about as far from a Premiership as at any time in the past 29 years then they are not in a position to speculate on someone who isn't wanted by their current club.

Russell Robertson announced he's (apparently forced to) leaving Melbourne. He's selling himself via a presser but I doubt any club would pick him up at 30 years of age.

Nathan Brown could well find himself in the same boat shortly.

Russell Robertson's nominating for the Draft.Any interest as a late pick.....

Salopek for Shulz, straight swap. If they bargain hard, throw in Hughes. At worst it'll be trading 2 duds for 1. Nett effect 1 less dud for us.

lyon at the saints brought in some recycled players and look at them...it can be done..Schnieder, dempster, king, gardiner, Ray all them arguably past it prior to coming to the saints...

has to be the coach and the support structure in place that gets these types of guys to perform..

That's because the Saints were a finals team in the last 6 years and ready to go for the flag. That's when you top-up.

Dawson was a calculated risk that paid off big time. Similar to Nahas I guess but Dawson was carrying a fair bit of baggage around so I give Lyon and the Saints a lot of credit for that move.

King and gardiner were really struggling at their respective clubs...granted they filled the ruck void that many had said existed at the saints for a while, but it was still a gamble given the baggage of Gardiner and Kings injury history.

He's also bulked up quite well. Don't forget Farren Ray too.

Huge applause to Lyon and that's why they deserve the flag this year.

Geez...and to think Lyon was our assistant coach 10 years ago.

The most important aspect of what you have said TF is "10 years ago". This is one of the reasons that Ken Hinkley appears to be edging in front of the group we talking to as a new coach. It takes time to build up the skills and confidence and develop own game plan. It takes a skilled coach with that experience and confidence to see silk when someone else see's pig ear. Richmond used to be very good at it - Robbie McGie, Wayne Walsh from the glorious past and Paul Broderick more recently but nearly all of our most recent attempts have failed (too many to name but think Billy Nicholls to set the scene). Let's hope this is one attribute our new coach has. I wouldn't underestimate Benny Gale's knowledge of the AFL's current players and what sort of people they are when we come to assessing opportunities of players in the PSD.
