Players from other clubs out of contact? Will we shop?

We need a Power Forward and a Key position Backman, we need them now otherwise the players we do have and are developing will be mentally shot if they have to suffer another 4-5 years until we develope our own. I do not see us having any other option than going out and getting one or two talls with experience and developing our own at the same time. no good having a great midfield with nothing to kick to. This is the year to do it otherwise you will have to compete with Gold Coast and there pocketfuls of cash next year.

I agree with a lot of that. This is the type of thinking I am looking for.
The ruck too is well skinny.

Cash up and a PSD trump could see us fill a need without giving up too much picks wise if at all.

The tall situation particularly is dire.
We can't just keep players on the list because we have no other options, we need to create other options (draft pick currency) by moving on players who are excessive to our needs in other areas.

This is where the list manager needs to earn his money. Sound them out Craig.

Just thinking if we'll go shopping this off season.

Mmmmm, that all depends on whether Deledio wants out. If he wants out then yes, we go shopping, hopefully a trade can be reached that should give us a quality draft pick. If Deledio stays, then we still go all out and leave no stone unturned for up and coming talent.

Judds contract has been massively front-loaded for his first 2 years while Fevola goes on the vets list next year I think or maybe the year after, so there's room in the TPP in the years ahead.

How much does Judd get paid after 2 years? Fevola definitely not on the vets list next year, you have to be 30. The year after they get 50% salary cap reduction. I still cant see them being able to hold onto all their younger players within the next couple of years and still think their window of opportunity is the next 2-3 years. Can't see it happening personally.

How about we stay away from the trash and treasure stalls this year and just head to the new car yards!!

I agree - but we should not discount a 2007 model Rolls Royce if it became available.

Mobile and smarts are the order of the day for defenders I reckon.

Those who can read the play and become the 3rd man up and those who can run and rebound out of defence are the gold.

There's not many gorilla type defenders around anymore.
when richmond people talk gorillas they mean players taller than 190cm and heavier than 90kg.

hmm theres plenty of big quick well skilled power defenders going around they are not as extinct as many make them out to be.nearly all clubs have at least one.

sheesh you blokes have waite who at 195cm and 97kg is no midget. every tall defender you have weighs at least 90kg with most of them getting bigger stronger and heavier. go compare your tall defenders to ours. or better still to other clubs.
adelaide rutten 191 102kg brisbane merrett 196cm 104kg. carlton waite who ive mentioned. just on this imo setanta who at 199cm 100kg looked to be a real promising fb but for some reason they stopped playing him there. collingwood sheesh both browns 194 and 195cm 102kg and 98kg. throw in presti whos no skinny midget. do i need to go on as said most sides would have, lets see gorillas is not the word but tall heavy power defenders. brian lake trent croad both over 100kg are two obvious ones.

IF we have pick 2 in the PSD I think we should no doubt chase hard after an uncontracted, otherwise keep picks and if any club wants to give up there picks for any of our not up to its, then there more then welcome.

id give up ALOT for lake. a strong, tall fb, who does actually stop his opposition fwd from scoring is something we desperately need. that would mean thursty/moore/maguane could take second/third talls which suits them as they are not good enought to stop oppos no 1 fwd. we have lacked a solid big tough fb for a very long time, nd if we wanna be a good team we need a good FB.

I wouldn't. He's overrated IMO and the Dogs would demand a 1st and 2nd round pick. Not worth it, develop youth.

What about Mitch Thorpe from Hawthorn? What is his contractural status? Has been in the system for 3 years now with only a couple of games next to his name. Has struggled this year with injury but in saying that it must be pretty hard and frustrating to break into a team with Franklin and Roughead as the 2 key forwards.
Could be worth a punt.

Thorp, Mitchell 194cm 88kg DOB 25.12.88 - Turns 21 in Dec. Fits the bill to be part of a re-build.

top stuff ace, do remember his game against us, he really looked good. he is out for the year with a knee/hip injury, big deal!!
i would like him in our side, young and quality. if hardwick gets the job, mitch and beau dowler may follow... watch this space.

Yeah it might help if Hardwick is coach. All depends whether he is contracted. If he is not then some extra cash thrown his way might entice him into the PSD.

Salopek had good form in the first half of the year but has looked disinterested at times since then. Dropped twice to the SANFL.
Salopek is a Richmond supporter.

Dowler was training with us a few years ago as a junior (someone at work knew him back then and he kept telling me this kid was going to be a star). I think he is also a Richmond supporter but I stand to be corrected on that.

salopak will be in melbourne next year but what do you give to get him, round 3 selection or snag him in the psd. very good kick. he doesnt like playing at port. high quality mid fielder.

Pears & Hurley - home grown is best. keep your draft picks and develop your own. The Tigers have a history of giving up picks and players for trades - where has it got you?
