Just thinking if we'll go shopping this off season.

We are going to have some money available with the impending departure of so many veterans and will have PSD leverage due to a lowly finish on the ladder.

I am sure many will scream grow your own but if it's not too costly, I am just wondering out loud if we'll cha$e anyone of genuine quality (ala the Blues with Judd) who'll be young enough to fit into our longer term plans.

Did you just use Judd and not too costly in the same sentence?

The Blues did well out of that trade for arguably the best player in the comp. Had the Weagles over a barrel due to their position.
Sure he was expensive but they didn't have to give up Kreuzer. Now the Blues are playing finals & gunning for a top four spot with fantastic membership nos. They no doubt think it was worth it (so far anyway).

Others won't cost as much as one of the game's elite. We'll have money available and should be keeping an open mind for someone in the right age bracket.

Give it time. Carlton's time is now. They have a swag of players in the 24-26yo group. They have some aging players too. Next 3 years is their window or they're rooted. I can't personally see Carlton being able to hold onto their talented younger players with the salaries that Judd and Fevola are commanding. I think Judd will be detrimental longer-term to Carlton. But that's just my opinion.

The Tigers cant afford and dont have the necessary draft picks to muster a Judd like deal. It was all planned anyway, months before Judd actually left West Coast. Maybe we've been hatching a similar arrangement with Gary Ablett?

Probably a win-win. Murphy, Gibbs & Kreuzer are still kids and Jamison & Hampson look like players IMO. Judd was the right player at the right time for Carlton.

Judds contract has been massively front-loaded for his first 2 years while Fevola goes on the vets list next year I think or maybe the year after, so there's room in the TPP in the years ahead.

We've got some good young prospects developing in the 2's and we've still got some weeding out to do of some of our mid-senior players like you this year and if we can draft a decent replacement for Fev in this years draft for when he retires I think our window might be open for a few more than 2 or 3 years.

I reckon Travis Boak from Port would be a good get. ;)

We need a Power Forward and a Key position Backman, we need them now otherwise the players we do have and are developing will be mentally shot if they have to suffer another 4-5 years until we develope our own. I do not see us having any other option than going out and getting one or two talls with experience and developing our own at the same time. no good having a great midfield with nothing to kick to. This is the year to do it otherwise you will have to compete with Gold Coast and there pocketfuls of cash next year.

How highly do you rate Bret Thornton?

He seems to be a very poor 1 on 1 defender and he was even getting a touch up by Vickery when we played you. He's too slow and doesn't have good enough skills to be a quality rebounding defender like Goddard so he's just an in between type like Kelvin Moore. Don't rate him, others might. Why?

We'll have enough tall defenders with Jamison Bower Waite Austin Thornton, and Thornton did want to bail to hawthorn a couple of years ago...

we need a gorilla in defence, not another runt

Mobile and smarts are the order of the day for defenders I reckon.

Those who can read the play and become the 3rd man up and those who can run and rebound out of defence are the gold.

There's not many gorilla type defenders around anymore.

Forget any uncontracted players we must sign deledio give Cousins a new contract then focus on getting the best kids into the side maybe we could get someone in the PSD but would even rather get a kid who missed the draft or Shelton from Coburg someone like that.

We have to make the most of the opportunity, whether its getting a player through the PSD or using the threat of the PSD to complete a favourable trade. What about the Bulldogs Lake who is apparently being shopped around at the moment.

no no no no no no no

haven't we learnt from the past? no more trading picks away for players. this is THE draft where we have to make some smart decisions in regards to offloading some of our own players to improve our posituin in the draft.
