Pick 72: Ryan Garthwaite

That would be AFL. He's a good player Garthwaite. Pick #72, bargain.

That would be VFL.
Can't remember him averaging 7.5 spoils or 4 tackles in his two ever AFL games.

In retrospect he should have played the PF, even in addition to Astbury. Garth could have played on Mihocek, Grimes on De Goey and Astbury on Cox which would have freed up Rance to play cover, blocking De Goey's space and making Cox's life a lot harder than he had it.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Ryan aint afraid to put body into a contest either so he will contest hard he just wont afford any offensive run or the hard attack Rance provides.

I keep hearing Balta comparisons to the raw Rance. Could he play a role in reshuffling the backline?

It's been an interrupted preseason for Darryl so am tapering expectations but he is as close to the perfect replacement for Grimes as we'll get. Hope he does well.

IMO has not put a wrong foot in his 2 games despite Hawkings getting a good start to him in game 1. Without putting the curse on him should be a 200 game RFC defender. Big task following a Cameron type around Saturday twilight.

He'll be underdone for sure, could have done with an extra FULL game at VFL level but we probably didn't have an option with Grimes going out as well.

He is undersized and slow. Not a good combo at AFL level.

Need perserverance with him.
He still needs to build his fitness.
Definitely not the worst

IMO from what I have seen he is not up to it in the seniors. Hope i'm wrong.

At the game = left early in final quarter. Astbury and Garth lack of pace found out They were against bigger quicker forwards with the ball coming in with a fair amount of precision a very regular intervals. Cameron could have kicked 10+.

Not sure about Garth but worth persevering with as Port forwards may not have as much space as Cameron and Tomlinson had . Astbury even slower. Thought the shift of Balta to Cameron worth a try but task was huge given the space Cameron was allowed. At least Balta has some pace.

I actually feel sorry for this kid.

No pre season and is asked out of necessity to come in and mind Jeremy Cameron.

He shouldn't be judged on today, and whatever he does in the next month or so.

Is sorely under done.
