Pick 72: Ryan Garthwaite

I love this guy. Personally I'd keep him plying his trade as a backman. All of Astbury, Grimes, Rance are 27yo+ now. Garthwaite is one obvious replacement in the future imo.

There is a role available for a tallish forward, second ruck type this year. He might just get it.

I'm a bit of a Garthwaite fan. Pretty sure he's got a bit of a future at RFC. For the time-being, just not sure he's up to the heat of finals at senior level.
Should it come to it, for whatever reasons, Moore would more likely be considered before Garthwaite.

They thought enough of him to send him straight to Tomahawk in his first game. After a torrid start he adjusted and held him.

He's a real leader on field in the VFL. It will only be forward/ruck nous that will count against him, not coping in the heat of battle.

By the report they also moved everyone around at 3/4.
Its kids footy, switching backs and forwards for their development

Arriving back at the airport yesterday from Gold Coast got chatting to a fellow Tiger (as you do) and he turned out to be Ryan Garthwaites old man.
They'd booked their trip a while ago hoping that the young bloke might have played up there against the Suns but not to be.
Anyway it looks like they'll probably get their chance tomorrow night.

Grimey clone. Maybe even better..
You owe me a new iPad after mine just shattered on the floor can’t believe Grimeys second biggest fan sees a young whipper snapper overtaking him. I like Sherbert, doesn’t have that elite pace of Grimes though, however should end up bigger and stronger then Grimes

in 3-4 years, he could approximate Grimes 1:1 role within the team.

But he will never be able to replicate Grimesy's elbowandknee-craft.

Grimes is possibly the best hit man the game has ever seen, given he does it in the era of a thousand cameras, a MRP malevolent dictatorship, and with a face of the Vienna Boys Choir, and a glass of Sangiovese.

Plus no one will ever match Grimes for the twist/ turn/muffed handpass/ accidentally stepped over the line/disguised/what just happened play for touch over the boundary line.

He has done it hundreds of times without ever using the same trick twice.

Superstar.

Not surprised, Garthwaite was a gent at training this morning, signing stuff for fans and chatting away. Great attitude on this guy.

Depends on the size of your duffel coat.
