Pick 72: Ryan Garthwaite

Thought he did an excellent job and great experience. I hope he doesn't get dropped but coming up against Swans Astbury is a safer bet. Just hard to fit them all in, the backline is so solid.

Daryl is a beauty. Looks ungainly when kicking and he doesn’t seem to turn his head to look around but rather his whole upper torso. He also has incredibly long arms and as a consequence a very long reach to get in and make spoils.

His on the ground smother was brilliant. Like all good defenders he kept his eye on the ball and was never out of the contest. He was very hard to play against. Great first up game.

Agree.
Has the Inspector Gadget/Fletcher long arms.

Great save around the goal square.
Looked a certain goal

Touch of grimes about him

He can thanks Rance for that. :hihi

Rance shoved him over and into the path of the ball :hihi

It was great how all the players got around him on the ground after the game. He loved it too and will help him believe that he belongs.

There's a great article about Garth on the site that can't be named, the young fella teared up when he got the call from Dimma.

Watch the play again. Rance pushes him over. Brilliant bit of work by the Tross. Laid a road block, like dynamiting rocks across a mountain road.

Garth was standing next to Grimes at the jumper presentation, Grimes is listed as 193 cm's and Garth 192, but Garth looked a couple of cm's taller. Questions have been ask of his correct height before, he certainly looks taller than the height he's listed at.

Hee's so strong in the air & reads the ball well. That enables him to get away with being a few cms shorter. Was a very ballsy matchup by the coaching staff. He did a great job.

he didnt *smile* up a kick either. hit every target I saw. didnt hand it to a more experienced bloke to deal with, pulled the trigger himself, with a plum

and was directing traffic.

from where I was sitting, it was a truly extraordinary debut. another :clap

I don't believe Grimes is 193, more like 190, 191 at the most. I reckon a lot of those height measurements are dodgy.
