Pick 72: Ryan Garthwaite

Seemed like the VFL guys had a tough day.

Anyone at the game? How did young Ryan go?

Caesar & I went down there, Darryl was a bit quiet but everything he does is good, progressing nicely

Definatly wouldn't be against him coming in as a forward, cupboard is bare and we need somebody who can take a grab, personally can't see it doing his development any harm.

As long as he doesn't get on Social media forums afterwards. That could unsettle him a little.
Time for some supporters to temper their expectations of 1st and 2nd year players. It's the clubs fault that we need to play kids who aren't ready.

Firstly with Garthwaite he is a competive beast BT, has the right attitude upstairs. For me 2 things can happen if he debuts this year, he plays well and knows he belongs or he gets towelled up and I'm sure all that will do is make him work harder and learn on what he needs to improve on.

Again I don't think his the answer up forward, however the 2017 team needs a player who can compete in the air up forward and the cupboard is bare , some players it wouldn't be good for there development, barring injury U believe it would only be good for RG and the team.

Didn't work for Elton v Adelaide a few years back or Chol v Sydney last year but I suppose these are tough times. I do disagree that it can only be good for him and the team. What would be good is promoting them when they're developed properly through the 2nds and have to force their way through via form ala Hawthorn and Geelong models. But as I said these are tough times. Created by the club through incompetent drafting and development

Very true and near everybody acknowledges our poor drafting, however plenty of future stars have debuted early as they are made of the right stuff. Elton not good example, simply isnt and has never been anywhere near an AFL footballer.

Swing Dave up front and let Garth, Grimes and Rance do the job at the back?

I'd give it a crack.

Rance take Casboult, Grimes takes Curnow, Garth takes Kid Silvagni

Dave at the least keeps Weitering off Jack.

It really is the perfect week for his debut IMHO

I'd like to see him get a gig easy, but as a lead up forward. The backline is very settled and is our strength.

They can be switched mid game if it's not working, providing Dimma has been dragged out of the box first.

Grigga on Talking Tigers said the Big Garth has put on 9 or 10 kgs since he has got to the club, loves being around the boys and even comes in to the club on his day off which backs up CC's right attitude comment. Developing nicely, could end up being a player which would be a nice get at pick 72. Only 192cm, (unless he has grown), which I reckon is just under's to take on the AFL's key forwards so probably more of a Grimes role if groomed for defence. But our massive hole is forward so personally I would like him being trialed at CHF in the two's.

Garth is now 194cm and 91kgs
