Pick 53: Jack Graham

What worries me is I reckon Lennon would knock him off over 100m.

With no speed it's hard to apply pressure and negate oppo spread.

Would probably be a top 5 pick 30 years ago.

Watched SA v Vic C again tonight and focused on Graham's speed. Over 100m he would get done by a snail. But I was pleased with his burst of speed in the first few metres. As an inside mids it is the burst that will count not his ability to run and carry it down the wing

Has had a man's build playing against boys, will be interesting to see how he goes against men. Hopefully he is a diesel Williams

I thought he was playing senior footy last year?

Whats Sam Mitchells speed like over 100m? I think this is the guy that Graham has to build his game on. If he can read the game well and anticipate he will be able to create space for himself and be that important hit up guy in the center as well as being the inside mid/stoppages guy. Mitchell has proved you don't need elite speed. preferred, definitely but if he can tick off other skills he can make an impact.

Matt White also proves the speed means nothing theory. Lightening quick but had no idea how to use it (except maybe how to be quickest in the League at running to the bench).

There are more important qualities in the DNA of the footballer than speed.

And in a counter-intuitive way, Daniel Jackson is an interesting comparison. As a junior, had some serious speed - was a brilliant school boy 400m runner. But actually found himself a place in the AFL, when he bulked up a bit, to become an inside mid - but in the process, sacrificed a fair bit of his speed putting on the big body.

The difference is Sam Mitchell is probably one of the deadliest kicks in the comp. Can use either side as well. This bloke is not only slow but has the kicking style of Tim Fleming.

Graham is probably the pick I am most happy with. He is smart, a leader, strong of body and mind, hard, determined and now has a big chip on his shoulder!

Awesomeness!

Would not be one bit surprised to see him start in the 1s and have an impact.

I thought Jacko was a rower

he seems to hold his ground really strongly and gets very low , but still finds his way out, if i had to compare to a afl star, i would say selwood, he appeared to not have much pace and a average kick but was ruthlessly intentioned towards the ball and had rare leadership qualitys, hard traits to teach.

Seriously doubt he has a chip on his shoulder, seems a very level headed kid.

In fact i have heard him say after the draft that its irrelevant and we all start on a list day 1 of training.

I think his determination and desire are important as opposed to an exterior means of motivation.

My expectations or wish is that Graham ends up similar player to Patrick Cripps & Mathew Priddis and i see alot of similarities in their game style from whats written and some limited footage albeit that cripps is now 193cm and Graham being 183cm but look to be similar types.

Both Cripps,Priddis & Graham have a good inside game that consists of predominantly distributing the ball by hand rather than foot , 2/3rds handball and 1/3 kicking all high tackling and im thinking graham will average similar tackle numbers to Priddis and Cripps roughly 8-9 a game. Their DE is roughly 70% and clanger count average 4 a game
with 7-8 clearances.

All 3 players have similar pace and all have similar kicking issue's , 2 other players that are averaging similar numbers are Tom Rockliff & Joel Selwood

I would be extremely happy with these types of numbers

If you read the article in the Adelaide Advertiser, he certainly sounds like he has a point to prove, hence the big chip comment. As I said, I think it is a real plus to have as many motivators as he can get.

That's incorrect, Graham kicks a lot more than he handballs.
